Thanks very, very much, Elsimae, for both of your messages, the earlier one showing this family was NOT in Marion Co,OR in 1870 census, but does show up in 1880 ColumbiaCo,WA Terry and which confirms that Edward Morton POMEROY is indeed a son of this couple & who md Florence CLUSTER 12 Sep 1894 in MultnomahCo,OR which is my connection to this family by marriage since Florence CLUSTER's mother Mary Elizabeth "Molly" (COURTNEY)FRENCH CLUSTER was sister of my great- grandmother Sarah Jane (COURTNEY) HOUK, all of them having come to Linn Co., OR from Iowa in 1868 after "Molly" had lost her first husband in the Civil War. Now, as to question in your earlier message indicating the confusion about the name Abarilla ROSS & Elizabeth PAYNE, I too have seen some Ancestry.com data to that effect but have not been able to reconcile the conflict. In my own mind, altho' I've NOT done much TRIMBLE or PAYNE research, the reference to an 1834 marriage of Edward TRIMBLE to Elizabeth PAYNE (supposedly 1st marriage in Kane Co,IL) refers to him being from panhandle of VA/WVA?? whereas our Edward TRIMBLE who died along OR Trail in 1846 was a s/o William TRIMBLE 1785-PA/1830-OH & Nancy Ann CARTER c1785-PA/d.aft 1844-IA or OR & all of William & Nancy's children reportedly born in either PA or OH (probably could be considered panhandle of VA) so maybe Edward was actually married twice or maybe we have 2 different Edward TRIMBLE's involved here, although our Edward TRIMBLE whose widow Abarilla (ROSS) TRIMBLE became wife of Thomas POWELL 12-25-1850 in Salem,OT per statement in his ODLC #3319 (apparently unrecorded as not shown in MarionCo,OR Marriage Index), had a brother George TRIMBLE who married Lucinda PAYNE 1834-IL who was also a daughter of Christopher PAYNE & Elizabeth DAWSON per Ancestry.com data of Mikki McBride, whose info I have used extensively in my research on this family. Hi Don, I'm Mikki's sister and do most of the data collection lately (my nickname is CiCi). Thanks for letting me know the connection. I follow the Trimble's to try and find more info on the Payne sisters: 3 of them married Trimble's, and I assumed (incorrectly, I think) that all the Trimble's were brothers. However, at least one or two of these were brother to Edward Trimble that married Abarilla. Emeline Fuller (who wrote "Left by the Indians"), daughter of Abegal Payne and Hiram Trimble, spoke of staying with her cousins when arriving in OR. In the 1860 census, she appears with Martha Jane and James Pomeroy. Elizabeth Payne, who married Edward Trimble, lost her husband in a similar fashion to Abarilla's loss, and both Elizabeth and Abarilla had a son Horace. So, I'm beginning to think that either they are the same person, or someone made a mistake about there being an Elizabeth. There is a fellow (Dr. Robert Barnes in Batavia, IL) that has followed up with research on Elizabeth's father, Christopher Columbus Payne, and has written a small book about him. I'll contact him and see if he has any more info. One of many puzzles to pursue!
