Surnames: Trantham, Harris, Nelson, Lynch Alvin Lewis Thantham, 68, Wamic (Oregon), died Sunday, December 2, 2001 at a local care facility. He was born July 17, 1933 in Red Hill, New Mexico, to Arthur W. and Martha Ruby Melvina (Harris) Trantham. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1950 and served as a fireman and marine oiler during the Korean War era, receiving the National Defencse Service medal. Following his military service he moved to Portland in 1955 and worked as a welder for Sulzer-Bingham Inc., manufacturing industrial pumping equipment. He retired in 1995. He married Joan F. Nelson on March 4, 1990. They moved to Wamic in 1998. He enjoyed the outdoors and was passionate about his hobbies of hunting and fishing. He was an active member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He is survived by his wife, Joan; and by his children; daughter, Victoria Lynch, Felton, Delaware; sons William, Sandy (Oregon); Thomas, Lincoln City (Oregon) and Adam, Vancouver, Washington; 11 grandchildren, Edwin, Corrine, Andrew, Heather, Jessica, Shannon, Thomas Jr., Jeremy, Braden, Andrea and Tyler. A celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, December 10 at the Wamic American Legion hall with the Reverend Stan Wall presiding. Military honors will be rendered jointly by American Legion Post #135 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #10637. Inturnment will be at Willamette National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Gorge, 751 Myrtle Street, The Dalles, Oregon 97058. Arrangements were by Columbia Cremation & Burial.
