    1. Orphanages in the 1920s
    2. I am interested in finding the names and locations of records for orphanages that existed in the Portland area between 1920 and 1927. Stephen Clark [email protected]

    3. The records were/are kept with the specific social service agency that had custody of the child. Officially, there were no "orphanages". They were all disguised as schools, homes for wayward women, service organizations, etc; I even found an orphanage that claimed to be a nursing home!!! Like today, the exact location of most of these "orphanages" is confidential; their business offices were/are located away from the actual orphanage or family housing the child. We could check more specifically, if you have an idea of who handled the adoption or schooling. Maybe a church group or fraternal organization he/she joined immediately upon age of majority.
