    3. Original Courthouse Regional History Forum Series for 2005 (Wasco County) Programs begin at 1:30 p.m. in the upstairs courtroom of the 1859 courthouse, 410 West 2nd Place, The Dalles behind the Chamber of Commerce/Visitors’ Center Saturday, February 5 Early Mosier Show and Tell Willis Gholston is well known as Mosier’s (Oregon) historian and story-teller. But he is also a collector of artifacts – some of them going back to Mosier’s early days. Come and see the town’s second speeding ticket and hear its story. And part of an old still that once operated in the hills above Mosier with its own tale to tell. Saturday, February 12 Remembering Hal Fancher Jada Gay learned much local history at the feet of a master story-teller, her father, Hal Fancher. Fancher was a gregarious raconteur and voracious collector of stories that he loved to recount. Some of them found their way into writing or were captured on tape. He cam to The Dalles in the second decade of the last century, when the automobile was in its infancy, and before long he owned an auto dealership on Second Street – a fine place to hear and tell stories! Saturday, February 19 Early Dufur and the Dufur Family Not one, but three Dufur (Oregon) historians will present this program: Sandy Bisset, Duane Powell, and Nancy Gibson are leaders of the Dufur Historical Society, preservers of the Schreiber log cabin and the adjacent one-room school, and part of the crew that sees to it that a Threshing Bee happens each August. They will offer a program originally presented to Dufur Historical Society on the town’s origins and the family that gave Dufur its name. Saturday, February 26 Family Roots and Public History Sam Woolsey comes by a life-long interest in local history via family roots. Those roots run deep. He represents the current generation of three pioneer families of Wasco Count: the Woolseys, the Meekers, and the Andersons. His family heritage translates into active historical preservation: he is president of Fort Dalles Museum and was instrumental in the relocation and restoration of the Anderson House and Barn to the museum grounds. New display: the Wasco County flag, designed for the 2004 Centennial. Coffee and cookies will be served. Write P.O. Box 839, The Dalles, OR 97058 or telephone 541-296-4798 or 541-296-3594.
