Hi list, I have a book on the genealogy of the inhabitants of the Bischmisheim area of Germany (around Saarbrucken) before 1900. This is a huge book with tons of surnames. One name that had over a 100 descendants listed is SCHMEER, but there are hundreds others. This info is all from primary sources so is very reliable. Especially if you have a very "different" last name - have me give a look as there is everything from 3 letter surnames to some over 10 letters. Ha! So, if you have ancestors from Germany, I would be happy to do lookups for you. Probably best if you contact me off list so we don't tie the list up. :) Marcy Ugstad firelook2@aol.com
Gloria, I just received 2 death certificates just a copy (non-certified) from the Oregon Archives & all it cost me was 25 cents for each one plus postage. Bobbie
Glad to have been of some help, Gloria. If you have any trouble getting them to mail it to you, I'd be happy to send for the copy and mail it to you myself. Sydney
I frequent the Ohio Historical Society. If anyone is interested, I can lookup death certificates for a nominal fee. The dates that are available are from 1908-1944. I was hoping that someone who had the Oregon Death Index on cd could do a quick look-up for me. I'm looking for the dates that Ken and Ruth KUENZI died. I know they died in Woodburn, Marion County, in the 80's or possibly *very* early 90's. Thank you so much. -Katie Baptiste penelope126@hotmail.com _________________________________________________________________ Send and receive Hotmail on your mobile device: http://mobile.msn.com

Could someone please look up a death on the death index for Winfield Wilson after 1923 he was born in 1850. Gloria Australia
Hi Gloria, According to Ancestry.com's Oregon Death Index, 1903-98, Winfield J. Wilson died in Marion County, Oregon on 20 August 1944. Could he be your man? A copy of his death certificate can be obtained at the Oregon Archives by email for a minimal fee. (Less than one US Dollar plus postage.) They are really quick; usually less than a week an it's in the mail. The following will tell you how: http://arcweb.sos.state.or.us/reference.html Good luck! RE: old quilts Actually it is better NOT to take it to the dry cleaners. They use some really strong chemicals and that is not what you want to use on old quilts. Better to use a mild detergent such as BIZ. Fill a big sink, or use the bathtub fill with luke warm water and soak each one over night. I wrap the quilt in a sheet so I don't have to handle the quilt itself. Then push pull, squeeze, squeeze, rinse, rinse, until the water comes clean. Gently roll the sheet up, with quilt inside and get as much water as you can out. Then let the quilt dry in a warm place, preferably not in direct sun, again using the sheet to pull the quilt out flat. When it is totally dry you can fold it up, drape it over a quilt rack and/or so on. This is a multi-person activity and best done in the summer. This is also only done if the quilts are very dirty or discolored. If they have been in a box, they probably dont really need to be cleaned, just aired out. Go to your local quilt store or museum to ask for the name of someone to give you a dollar evaluation. Good luck Diane Gardner dianeg@rosenet.net >--- BoborJamie@aol.com wrote: >> Does anyone on the list know where I would take old >> quilts for cleaning and >> evaluation, or at least how to clean them. Hi, In 1876, Marjara (Polly Ann) Dean and her five daughters moved from Calaveras county, CA to Oregon and settled in the Flourney Valley area of Douglas county. Polly Ann's daughters were Mary C. (Cummins) Ishmael, Sarah F. Cummins, Louisa Cummins, Virinda Cummins, and Martha Cummins. Mary married John W. Ishmael in Calaveras county before the move. Sarah F. Cummins married Lewis M. Archambeau in Oregon in 1878. I suspect that Virinda may have married an man named Gilbert in Oregon. I have no idea what happened to Louisa and Martha. Some of the Ishmael descendants later returned to California and lived in the Los Angeles area. The Archambeaus later moved to an area near Stayton. That is either in Marion or Linn county. Polly Ann had remarried John Dean in Calaveras county, CA in 1871, but I have found no record that they were ever divorced. I assume that he just left him when the family moved to Oregon. Before marrying John Dean, Polly Ann was married to James Cummins. Before that her name was Man or Mann. There was a man named William Mann living near Polly Ann in Calaveras county. He may have been her brother or her son by a previous marriage. He may also have moved to Oregon with her family. If you are researching any of these families, please contact me. Thank you for your help. Ken Tessendorff California
Thank you for checking. I guess I will have to let her simmer on the back burner a little while longer. There has to be a name someplace in some court records about the case, I would suggest talking to a court clerk and asking questions on how to find this info. An add might help, maybe some one who know will come forwards. Might use some alias phone , like an office someplace , you may not want your personal number published. I also know a couple detectives who do this , I can check to see if they do Oregon, I think they are CA. The Dalles Chronicle, December 16, 2001 21 Years Ago, December 16, 1980 Gary Rood, administrator of The Dalles General Hospital, was appointed to a vacancy on the Port of The Dalles Commission on Monday night. The position Rood takes will be on the ballot in April at which time he and others interested may frun for a four-year term. Revenge was sweet for The Dalles High School, which dealt two time defending state champion Hillsboro a 64-47 girls basketball defeat at Hillsboro Monday night. Annette Foley scored 23 points and had 23 rebounds for The Dalles. (Chronicle Editor Note: The file for the last quarter of 1981 has turned up missing, so the year differs on segment of Looking Back.) 40 Years Ago, December 16, 1961 The art department of The Dalles High School topped all other schools in the state by producing three prize winners in the statewide contest sponsored by the Citizens for Art. Two local students placed among the cash prize winners and another received honorable mention. Bonnie Jo Odell placed third for her pen and ink sketch titled "El Gato." Linda Thompson placed fourth with her chalk drawing of a mare and foal. Honorable mention was awarded to Lenore Hall for her pen and ink drawing "The City." All three are students of Mrs. Henry Hutton. 60 Years Ago, December 16, 1941 Edward Arthur Davis, son of Mr. and Mrs. Claude I. Davis, The Dalles, has been lost in action, presumably the Pearl Harbor naval engagement, according to a telegram received today from Rear Admiral C.W. Nimitz. Young Davis was a seaman, first class, in the United States Navy. He had enlisted in the Navy (in) August of 1940 and had graduated from The Dalles High School in May of that year. (Chronicle Editor's Note: It was later determined that Davis had not died in the Pearl Harbor attack, but was only missing in action for a time.) Mobilization of Company I, Oregon State guard, was fomally effected in The Dalles civic auditorium last night when a grand total of 101 volunteers took the solemn pledge of war time service to their community, state and nation before Commanding General Alvin C. Baker of Salem (Oregon). With local dignitaries and four members of General Baker's staff participating, the ceremony took place at approximately 9:30 o'clock after all volunteers had submitted to a series of physical examinations conducted by local doctors and dentists. 80 Years Ago, December 16, 1921 Clyde G. Huntley, collector of internal revenue, calls attention to the fact that commencing on January 1, 1922, the stamp tax of toilet proprietary preparations will no longer be in effect. While this is a small tax it has been a source of annoyance with patrons alike and its repeal will be greatly appreciated. The Y.W.C.A. basket sale at the Corson Music store yesterday was well patronized according to Miss Estella Sherrill, the receipts amounting to more than $30. A few of the baskets have not been sold and persons desiring to buy them may see them at the Y.W.C.A. The Columbia River Highway between The Dalles and Hood River was opened yesterday, when crews of men completed the removal of the last slides and drifts blocking travel between Mosier and the Apple City according to H.R. Fancher of The Dalles. A few cars got through yesterday and reported that care must be exercised by motorists, but that the trip is not dangerous where ordinary caution is observed. 100 Years Ago, December 16, 1901 The diptheria epidemic will soon be a thing of the past. No new cases have been reported for two days and the quarantine was raised yesterday from the residence of Mrs. Allard, leaving five residences quarantined, in which the patients are practically well. Mamie Helen Flynn, the brilliant young pianiste and elocutionist, gave a recital at St. Mary's Academy yesterday afternoon. She rendered selections from Beethoven, Liszt, Schumann, Chopin and Schubert-Tausig in a manner that elicited the greatest praise from faculty and students. Hoodlums are as thick in this town as June flies. And they are just as inconsiderate. Two of them this morning applied to the editor of this paper for money to buy their breakfast before the moulder of public opinion had concluded negotiations for his own. There is an article about Francis Clyde Simpson, music man extraordinary written by John McManus, a professor of music at the University of Oregon, reprinted by permission, in The Dalles Chronicle, Sunday December 16, 2001. Francis Clyde Simpson taught music in Hood River, Moro, Arlington, The Dalles, Salem, White Salmon, Bingen, Wishram, Stevenson and Goldendale. If anyone is interested, contact me personally and I will make a photocopy of the article and mail to you via snail mail.
Dan, Thanks for the tip - however, I do have a copy of my adoption decree and the birthfather's name is not on it. Original birth cert just states he was 32 yrs old when I was born, and non-id info just says he was in good health and part Native American. I have thought about placing an ad in the newspaper there at Newport to see if anyone responds. :) Thanks again and have a great holiday season! ..marcy
