    1. [OREGON] Old Ashland photographs
    2. Wordsmith
    3. I'm posting this in case it hasn't already been posted to the general Oregon list. The poster's e-mail is at the bottom. I've "rescued" three old photographs all taken at the F.L. Camps Studio in Ashland, Oregon, all appear to have been taken in the 1890's. They appear to be that of a mother and two of her daughters. The first is Aunt Celia BOICE FRULAN who appears to be in her 40's at the time. The second photograph is of Cecilia FRULAN age 17 years and was taken in 1894. The third photograph is of Maud FRULAN age 15 years and was also taken in 1894. I believe that Cecilia FRULAN married Duffy BACHARD 23 May 1896 at Jackson, Oregon and that there was also a son in the family, Harvey Frederick FRULAN b. 2 Sept 1885 in California. I believe there is a California connection because along with these photographs were three old PHILLIPS Family Photographs all taken at the Weston Studio in Red Bluff, California. The PHILLIPS photographs were likely taken in the 1880's. The first is a photo of Uncle Henry PHILLIPS who appears to be in his 50's at the time. The second photo is of Mattie PHILLIPS DOUGLAS who appears to be in her teens at the time the photograph was taken. The third photo is of Grandma PHILLIPS who appears to be in her 50's or 60's at the time. I believe that Mattie may be Mattie Louisa PHILLIPS DOUGLAS b. 9 Nov 1870 in Massachusetts, mother's maiden name LANCASTER, who died 11 June 1945 in Alameda County, California. I don't know what the connection is between these two families, however, because the handwritten notations appear to have been made by the same hand I'm assuming there is some connection. I do find a Henry PHILLIPS b. 1890 mother's maiden name BOYCE who was born in California and died in Alameda County, California in 1946, so maybe this is the connection between the families. I'm hoping to locate someone from the family so that these beautiful photographs can be returned to their rightful place with family. If you are a member of one of these families or know someone who might be, please contact me at familia@sprintmail.com Thanks, Shelley ============================== To join Ancestry.com and access our 1.2 billion online genealogy records, go to: http://www.ancestry.com/rd/redir.asp?targetid=571&sourceid=1237

    1. [OREGON] SMITH, Mary and John
    2. I just got some information today about my great grandmother and father and wondered where I could find out where they were buried in Portland and perhaps an obituary. Mary (Maria) Smith died Sept. 19, 1898 at St. Vincent's Hospital and was buried on Sept. 21, 1898 - Edward Holman Undertaker. John H. Smith died about 8 years earlier - this is all the information I have on him. Thanks for any assistance you can give me. Edel

    3. There are two books about the Applegate Trail. (Note: southern Oregon calls it the Applegate Trail; northern Oregon calls it the Southern Route, and some people have very strong feelings about what the name should be...) Webber, Bert. Over the Applegate Trail; To Oregon in 1846. Includes The Pringle Diary. Webb Research Group Publishers, c. 1996. Emerson, William. The Applegate Trail of 1846: A Documentary Guide to the Original Southern Emigrant Route to Oregon. c. 1996. Both of these are available for purchase at Powell's Books <http://www.powells.com> They are also available via interlibrary loan through your local library. 1. [OREGON] VINSON, ELLIOT, ANDERSON
    2. Kenneth Tessendorff
    3. Hi, I have recently learned that several girls from my Cummins family moved to Oregon around 1876 and married in Douglas or Lane counties. There were five sisters involved and I have located the married names of the first two, but have not been able to confirm the last three. The three girls, Virinda (a.k.a. Susan), Louisa (a.k.a. Annie), and Martha (a.k.a. Nancy ) may have married men by the name of William Anderson, William Vinson, and ? Elliot. Unfortunately, I don't know which girl married which man. If you are researching the names VINSON, ANDERSON, or ELLIOT and you also have a Virinda, Louisa, or Martha associated with those men, I would appreciated knowing whether we can make a family connection. Thank you for your help. Ken Tessendorff California

    3. There were several other trails that took settlers into the Willamette and Umpqua Valleys. Here are three that I know of. There may have been others. They are The Appligate [as you mentioned], The Elliott Cut Off; and The Free Immigrant Road. If you contact the Genealogical Society of Cottage Grove, Or., or the Roseburg Historical Center in Roseburg, they may be able to help further. I could probably answer most questions concerning the Elliott and Free Immigrant trails. Hope this helps. I was wondering if anyone could direct me to information and/or a mailing list having to do with the Southern Route. I am assuming by the name that this was another Oregon Trail route. Is this the one that is also called the Applegate Trail? Does it go by other names? Appreciate your help, Vicki tautegv@teleport.com

    3. Also in the tag lines , by using the lists link to our website , you wil find many ways to search rootsweb By entering a few searches you will get the hang of how they work. You can find any names and websites rootsweb hold in the site and can find a whole new world of ways to find what you want. Not every one will find their data , but you never know what you are going to find till you try.
