    3. I am attempting to research BALLOU and EUSTIS, if anyone would have acess to obituaries in Portland ,Clackamas, Or., I would like an obituary for VERNE EUSTIS BALLOU, born in Id. in 1917 and died in Portland in Sept. 1980, I do not have the exact date. Thank you in advance, I am new to this, if 1980 is too long ago to ask for a look-up, I would be interested in finding out how to go about getting that information from someone who is knows how. Thanks. Linda Belleu.

    3. Do you refer to the Oregon Archives whose link is shown on the bottom of this message? It lists counties and where various documents are found within those counties. The Oregon Archives link for placed on this list recently for help to researchers. Linda Cates wrote: > I used to have a list for Ore, it showed the different Co. plus archives. The cemetery is south of the Hwy. Columbian Cemetery is listed on maps as Columbia Cemetery (without the "N") - this one east of I-5, north of the same US Hwy 30, lending to the confusion David

    3. Linda, I went through the GNIS (USGS site) and used the Terra Server by MSN The name listed by GNIS is simply Columbia Cemetery, which is printed on the map. Now where is Columbia Pioneer Cemetery (is it really the same one as Columbia Masonic Cemetery??) 1. [OREGON] Looking Back: A Glimpse Through The Chronicle's Files
    2. Pete Wasser
    3. The Dalles Chronicle January 20, 2002 20 Years Ago, January 20, 1982 A group seeking to analyze the consilidation of the Wasco Rural and The Dalles Fire Department has asked the city to sit down and talk. Bob Carbis, a radio advertising manager here, approached the city council Monday night. He asked for a common date for the council and the Wasco Rural Board of directors to meet on the issue. 40 Years Ago, January 20, 1962 The Dalles Knights of Columbus Council No. 1598 celebrated its Golden Jubilee last Sunday, exactly 50 years after receiving its charter. His Excellency Most Revered Francis P. Leipzig, Bishop of Baker (Oregon), celebrated Pontifical Low Mass and was the main speaker at the Sunday evening banquet. Honored at the evening banquet were Louis J. Kelly and Edward T. Morran, charter members of the Council still living in The Dalles. Mr. and Mrs. Kelly were also celebrating their golden wedding anniversary. 60 Years Ago, January 20, 1942 A special audit and investigation of the books and records of the county clerk's office will be launched immediately under supervision of the Oregon Division of Audits it was reavealed in the circuit court this morning when the Wasco County grand jury submitted its initial report on an apparent shorts of clerk's funds, to Judge Fred Wilson. The audit had been authorized by the Wasco County court, the report disclosed, and will be carried on as rapidly as possible. With L.E. Martin of The Dalles city police acting as instructor, the subject "War Gasses and their First Aid Treatment" will be discussed in two local first aid classes, Arthur T. Bode, Red Cross first aid chairman announced here this morning. The first class will be taught by Miss Frances Kovtynovich in city hall tonight and the second taught by Wiley McDaniel will be at the courhouse on Friday. 80 Years Ago, January 20, 1922 With practically all of the odds and ends of construction finished and out of the way, the date for completion of the municipal auditorium now depends on a large extent upon weather conditions, according to C.V. Anderson, superintendent in charge of construction for Robert Paysee, contractor. D.J. Butcher returned yesterday from Fossil (Oregon) and Mitchell (Oregon) where he attended business in the interest of the telephone company. He reported 19 degrees below zero as the minimum temperatures at Fossil and that a feed shortage is feared by the stockmen of that section if the severe winter weather continues much longer. 100 Years Ago, January 20, 1902 Marshall Wood has a "horse" on some one, and if they don't come and claim their property and release the same from the pound, they'll be minus a bay saddle horse, which will be sold in five days. He took it up this morning, the animal having been wandering about the streets for several days. At present there are five cases of diphtheria in the city - one at the Prinz', one at the Cosmopolitan (hotel) and three in a family by the name of Atkins camped in the pines. The latter is a very sad case, one child having died Saturday and the family is in destitute circumstances, having been compelled to apply to the ...... 1. [OREGON] Geneva Arlene McNicholl Obituary
    2. Pete Wasser
    3. Private service due for state's oldest resident. Geneva Arlene McNicholl, also known as Mrs. Mac or Grandma Mac, died at the age of 112 years, 1 month and 12 days at the Columbia Basin Care Facility in The Dalles, where she had resided since February of 1994. She was born in Lafayette on December 10, 1889 to Sylvester and Lovina (Henry) Grazer. Her mother shared her birthday and also lived to be 99 plus years. She was married in 1918 to a railroad worker, Harry E. Rogers and had a son, Robert in 1920. After their divorce, she worked in the Portland and coastal areas. After marrying her second husband, James McNicholl, they moved to Cooks, Washington where they built and operated a grocery/Shell gas station. She continued operating the store herself, after their divorce, until her retirement in 1966. The outdoors were a great enjoyment to her; hunting and fishing in her younger years. In later years, she traveled extensively. Also of great enjoyment to her were her gardens, trees and flowers, especially rhododendrons. She was a member of the Minerva Chapter #104, Order of Eastern Star, in Portland for 74 years. Attending dinners, activities, and tours with her friends at the Skamania County Senior Center provided much entertainment to her. Her brothers, Chester and Leland, preceded her in death. She is survived by her son, Robert E. and wife Marian; grandsons Leland and wife Irene, Alan and wife Angela; granddaughter Diane and husband Glenn Gree; great-grandsons Robert E. II and wife Cheri, Gary, Philip and wife Sarah, Timothy, Andrew, Christopher; great-granddaughter Michelle and husband Darren Noble and great-great grandsons Brennan, Darren and Noah. Memorial may be made to the cancer or heart fund. Smith Callaway Chapel was in care of arrangements. 2. Katie Baptiste
    3. I put the cemetery records on my own personal website. I didn't think I needed to change my entire personal website after I added those. I spent hours in the cemeteries and hours putting them into spread sheets and then online. I'm sorry that I'm getting put down for what I have done. I thought I was being nice to have shared them at all. I will add standard html versions of the pages soon, but I do have work and college to do and don't have much extra time. I apologize for not knowing that I was to "keep it simple". Next time I attempt to help people find loved ones buried in cemeteries close to me, I will be sure to follow the rules. I would hate to have the effort I've put into this be overlooked again because of my mistakes. I agree with what a couple of others have said, let's drop this subject on the mailing list. If anyone has anything else to put down, please email me directly. Thanks. -Katie penelope126@hotmail.com http://www.geocities.com/spanky_kay/ >>>>> I agree with David here, the codes I use for Steel blue come up and scramble badly on some browsers, I would not have believed it, but I have a few extra systems to install things here and found out first hand . One other thing we all agreed on once in writing genealogy sites was to keep them in simple html 4.0 or similar since a great majority of genealogy people dont buy new systems just because the rest of the world pass's them up and simple websites are all they can handle I have not tried CSS and in I.E. 5.5 I have no idea if I am having a problem. Send me the link so I can try it too. Lets keep genealogy pages simple l;-) Dan _________________________________________________________________ Send and receive Hotmail on your mobile device: http://mobile.msn.com

    1. [OREGON] Cemetery transcription thanks
    2. Hi katie, You did a good thing. If I can't read it because of a mismatch, someone I know can and would. Those guys go at it all the time. If it hadn't been about your site it would have been about something else. Some people never out grow their "my car is faster than your car" mentality. I have very few skills when it comes to this box, but what I lack in skill is more than made up for by people like you who really do put a lot of time and effort into making so much information available to everyone. I actually learned some good things from the banter. I had no clue that were so many different ways that mismatches could occur, and that even the real "hot shots" sometimes have a problem, simply because of an equipment choice. I now feel much more comfortable with my "basics." I also learned that some people are really helpful - and some people are just "boastful." But then I already knew that. Anyway, I have lots of ancestors buried all over Oregon in old pioneer cemeteries, so carry on girl! Thanks, Midge
