    1. [OREGON] Seeking marriage date for GISH
    2. I'd appreciate having someone look up a marriage date for John "Jack" GISH (born as Johann Christian Fredrick GISCH 7/4/1879 in Clark Co, WI). He married Martha B. (maiden name unknown, born 10/31/1881, birthplace unknown). My best guess would be that they married about the turn of the century. They lived in the Portland area and had two sons, Forrest and Arno. Thanks. Carol AWE from Waukegan IL

    1. [OREGON] 1930 Census Search Help!!
    2. W David Samuelsen
    3. A Happy Easter to one and all! The Easter bunny at the National Archives has provided an early gift for those of us who are already aware that the 1930 Census which is being released Monday (April 1, 2002) has no Soundex index for the state of Oregon. To help the researcher, the National Archives has provided an online search help that identifies the layout of enumeration districts within counties so when one does begin a search, you'll know exactly where to go before going throught the challenging task of finding the folks you are trying to locate. You may wish to share this information with your browsers on your county sites. Go to: http://1930census.archives.gov/beginSearch.asp Type in (or find) Oregon, and then when a new screen comes up, find the county you are looking for, and then go to page 1, and click enter, and it will show you the arrangement order of townships & broughs (or more specifically, the enumeration districts) within a roll of microfilm. note: I already ordered Baker - Grant Counties roll for myself and will transcribe Baker and Grant first then the rest of roll. I expect to receive it sometime in June according to the company I ordered from. Don't pester me for lookups, as I will NOT do that. David Samuelsen

    2. John & Mary Palmer
    3. I'm looking for original Documentation for when "A.C. Palmer" came to Crook county. According to the following link on the Crook County GenWeb:http://www.ochoco.com/~jbony/crook-co/asettler.html "Crook County Pioneers" Transcribed by Rose Harnden "From Hazel Fosters Centennial notes 1968." A.C. Palmer is listed as coming in 1880 under the section heading: "Names of Pioneers of Central Oregon and dates they came to Oregon, Taken from Lists in 1905 by Local Newspaper, and other Historical Information and the Central Oregon History" Can anyone lookup the Hazel Foster Centennial Notes for the reference to A.C. Palmer? He is also listed in the index of "The first Settlers" of crook county from the book "And the Juniper Trees Bore Fruit" by Gale Ontko. A great book by the way. I can't remember If I have already asked this list. Thank you John Palmer Michigan

    3. Hi Marsha - if you go to PeopleSearch on Yahoo and type in the last name of Ballou for WA then 59 Ballous in the state will come up with names, addresses and phone numbers. The Ernie that I was referring to is on the list. If you do the same for OR you get listing for 30 Ballous. Another 8 in Oregon spell the name Bellew. 3. Nicolle, You probably have received enough answers to your e-mail by now, but you might try the Oregon History Center here in Portland. They have a huge microfilm collection of old Oregon newspapers. they are especially good on small towns in Oregon. Another possibility is the University of Oregon, Knight Library. They also have an extensive collection of Oregon newspapers on microfilm. Good Luck! 1. Re: [OREGON] Rogue River War Muster In/Muster Out Records
    2. Here you are. Sorry. Thought I remembered it was from Oregon archives, BUT it was Federal Archives. Got copies for Rogue River/Civil War I also got 4th and 5th enlistment copies for my gr gr grandfather 1829 (Carondolet) and 1834 (Fort Leavenworth) in 6th Infantry. But the 6th Infantry papers are not filed with regular Military Records. They are kept in files called "Old Wars and Civil Records". I think that was what they called them. Reason is they were not really considered wars. During that time the old 6th Infantry was used to put down protect wagon trains and put down wars between Indian tribes. At least that was what I was told. I got Rogue River War: copies headed as follows: " Information form" (taken from Capt. Hardings Muster Roll. "Captain E. J. Harding's Co. "A" - Recruiting Battalion to 1st Regiment - Jan 25, 1856 to May 9, 1856 "Accounting for Payroll Capt. E. J. Harding's Co. "A" - Recruiting Battalion to 1st Regiment - Jan 25, 1856 to May 9, 1856" I ALSO got copies of Oregon's 1st Vol. Cavalry Civil War records as follows: Muster In/Muster Out Payroll record Enlistment paper Discharge Certificate Use the regularFederal Archives records request form. You get the forms from NARA on the internet. There are some great sites on the internet for the OLD forts. I dont have the link any more, but you can find for Fort Atkinson and Fort Leavenworth pretty easy. Lois
