    3. An addendum to my previous message regarding obits. Some newspapers now place obits only in the Classified Section of their paper. There is a cost to the submitter for each line just as a regular advertisment so that in some communities you may not see obits listed because people are not willing to pay to pay for them to be placed in the Classified Section in the newspaper. I am fortunate to live in a city where the paper still publishes them free of charge. There were periods in time in this same newspaper though when obits were not included in the paper. Luckily, it was for short periods of time that they did not include obits in the daily or weekly publication. 1. Re: [OREGON] OBIT
    2. Pete Wasser
    3. Give as much information as you know regarding the person you are seeking the obituary of: Full name, married whom, date of death, cause of death if known, city and county where death occurred. SKS will probably search locally for information for you. Some obits can be obtained from newspapers on line. I like www.newslink.org Most of the newspapers seem to have begun archiving their obits about 1997 and later. Some give free access, some ask payment, others only keep information available for a week or so and the rest don't offer access to obits at all. A source for finding newspaper leads of published obits is http://www.rootsweb.com They have a link to Obituary Daily Times. It does a surname search, gives age, city of birth (if known) city of death and newspaper obit was published in and the date of the publication. Genealogical societies do searches for a minimal cost in their local areas. Contact them. Good luck in your search. Benjamin Rofinot of Warren (Oregon) fell out of a raft at approximately 6:30 p.m. Saturday night, said Detective Rick Eiesland. His body was found downriver nearly 45 minutes later by WCSO deputies and brought to shore with the help of two kayakers. Rofinot, along with around 17 other people, had spent the day rafting. No one in Rofinot's boat was wearing a lifejacket when the incident occurred. The report states that the party wore lifejackets until they reached calm water. When they came around a bend, they didn't have time to get their flotation devices back on before they hit the rapids. Police are treating this as a boating accident and do not suspect foul play.
