Re: William Bryer NATION died 28 December 1889 PORTLAND, OREGON. I previously asked for his obituary 1875, along with his wife for the same date and I wasn't sure if this was a mistake. I have found further refence to his death which makes more sense. He died on 28th December 1889. If anyone can help it would be much appreciated. Many thanks. I wonder if someone on the list can help me. I am looking for members of the NATION family in Portland. Not sure if this is the best list but I am not sure what County Portland is in. I have information from a Family Bible which says both William Bryer NATION and his wife Mary Ann NATION died on 2nd July 1875. I am not sure if this is a mistake or if they both died on the same day which would be unusual. Does anyone have access to Obituaries for Portland who can check for NATION around that date. In fact any information on NATION in the area. Also, Charles E NATION died in Hood River, Oregon in 1908. He was buried over in New York though. Might there be an obituary in Hood River for him? Were there any other Nation's in Hood River area at that time? Many thanks. Rosemary Nation (Essex, UK) rose@nation7.freeserve.co.uk

Hello My mother's name was Esther Maxine Atteberry. She went by "Maxine". In our search for our older sibling, my mother's first child, we have information that she/he was just handed over the baby to a family for which my mother worked for and lived with at a bar on Macadam Street. I guess my mom liked and trusted the family so much that she was willing to register in the hospital as the Lady who owned the bar and the couple who owned the bar were able to raise the baby as their own without any legal documentation, making it hard for us to EVER track down this sibling. We don't know if the sibling is a male of female, however, I have a strong feeling the child is/was a male. Unless this family who owned a bar have told this sibling about the adoption, he/she may never know of the truth. When mother found out she was having this baby the father left her. Once she gave up the baby he came back to her. She was young and in love. My mother actually had 3 children with the father of this sibling. The father was Lauren Klinker. She would just take this man back and it happened 3 times. However, the other two adoptions were legal. After the 3rd adoption my mother moved to California where she met and married my father and my brother and I were born. I would have never known about any of these siblings as my mother took this secret with her to her death bed, no one knew with the exception of my 2 uncles and my father. We found out when baby # 2 searched for mother and found mother had passed away in 1979, but she found my brother and I from my mom's obit. I am hoping someone who knows something will read this message Thanks for listening. -- Regards, Sandy Please visit my homepage and see if you have any clues in my hunt for my elusive grandfather http://www.rootssearch.net/mygensite/sscarletgen/index.html Searching for the Ancestry of John ATTEBERRY List Mom for: FAULL-L@rootsweb.com HOLEMAN-L@rootsweb.com RASEY-L@rootsweb.com Board Administrator for: F A U L L R A S E Y J E F F E R S __________________________________________________________________ Your favorite stores, helpful shopping tools and great gift ideas. I've tried looking this up on modern maps, and it looks like the street numbering has probably changed. My grandparents were listed in the 1930 Portland City Directory as living at 1796 Dana Portland Does anyone have access to information that would help me pinpoint exactly where this was? Thank you very much!!
Hello....... I looked up Dana on my "Travel Maps USA" cd and the house numbers are now in the 7300 - 8900's..... Dana is located one block east of Woolsey , North of Lombard, and some other cross streets include N Willis Blvd and N Kilpatrick....E.D. #26-463 inludes Dana Street..... The addressess did change sometime in the mid thirties....... It only took me about 20 minutes to locate my mother in the 1930 Portland census...... She was living right where she told me, North of Sandy Blvd...... I then looked up the house that later became my grandmothers and mothers in the mid 1930's and the house numbers were different, South of Hawthorne Blvd........ I knew I had the right census page because I reconized three other names that lived on that street....... Hope this helps..... Hi, I haven't received the obit on Lucille Duquette. I was suppose to get it today but I haven't received it. Thanks, Angel
It is indexed now. Soundex available through Family History Centers on microfilm. The Soundex itself was a WPA work project. Miracode was a different project done in late 1960s or early 1970s. It was stopped and scrapped when AISI went blazing with lots of state indexes. (Miracode is computerized version of Soundex) David oregon1853@netscape.net wrote: > > Hello David, > The 1910 census is not indexed. The Dalles Chronicle July 14, 2002 (Text Only) The store in last week's photo was located on the corner of Court and Second Street in The Dalles in 1916, according to a caption on the phot, which gives the name of the gentleman as Charley Roth. (The name shown in the photo is: The Spa Ice Cream and Confections. On a glass portion of the front entrance above Charley Roth, is printed "Olympian") Only one guesser this time, Ron Yonish, who said the unidentified barber shop of a number of months ago was the Modern barber shop on Washington Street, owned by Lester Thouvenel. The Dalles Chronicle July 14, 2002 Looking back is assembled from Chronicle files each week by Elroy King. 20 Years Ago, July 14, 1982 Defending all-around cowboy Mike Fuller of Pendleton (Oregon) will not be back to defend his title, but there will be plenty of other pretenders to the throne this year when the Fort Dalles Rodeo is held Thursday, July 15, through Sunday, June 19. Challenging for Fuller's title will be cowboys from Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana and California in addition to Australia and Canada. Members of the Babe Ruth 14-15 year old league championship team presented Martin Marietta (aluminum plant) with the title plaque last night. On hand for the presentation were Lars Ryssdal, manager of The Dalles plant; Babe Ruth president Bill Sugg; team manager Larry Krutsinger; coach Willie Wingfield; and players Scott Schooler, Greg Kelm, Ritchie Sharp, Stacey Alleman, Steve Wall and Scott Beaton. Other members of the title team were Dean Dollerhide, Lynn Helyer, Mark Monette, Ritchie Malcomb, Mike Cantrell and Duane Plant. Jim Wall was an assistant coach. 40 Year Ago, July 14, 1962 Mrs. Jim Overturf carried a 45-4-41 Thursday to win the mystery tournament played at The Dalles Country Club. Mrs. Ben Koch returned to the clubhouse with a second place 43 while Mrs. J.M. Odell was next with a 44 1/2 and Mrs. E.E. Berg totaled a 46. 60 Years Ago, July 14, 1942 Conservation of Victory Gardens is the keynote of the new campaign being launched by the U.S. Department of Agriculture war board in Wasco County and by the consumers division of OPA, according to reports from the office of W. Wray Lawrence, county agent. Land lease and military demand, said Lawrence, will mean that a large portion of the canned fruit and vegetables ordinarily found on the market and in grocery shelves will be missing this year. 80 Years Ago, July 14, 1922 A bad fire was reported raging this afternoon on the Curtiss brothers, Ed Ball and old Mays ranches up Mill Creek Valley about three and one half miles from The Dalles and about one half mile from the Mill creek market road. The fire was said to be beyond control at 3 o'colck this afternoon with every available resident in that neighborhood fighting it. A check for $100, given as a reward for services of members of the local volunteer fire department in combating the laundry fire last Monday night was this morning received by Fire Chief Harry Learned from J.L. Kelly, owner of the building. 100 Years Ago, July 14, 1902 People who spent the Fourth at Cloud Cap inn says they were treated to a genuine snow storm. The first ascent of the mountain was made by Horace Mechlan and Jack Roberts and five assistants. The purpose of the ascent was to place in position the 1,200 feet of rope, which is a great service to tourists in climbing to the summit. Saturday, the new United Brethren minister, Elder J.T. Merrill and family arrived from Eugene (Oregon) and occupied the pulpit to a good congregation. The former minister, Reverend L. Harter will leave tomorrow to spend two months at his home in Indiana, returning in time to take up his duties at Wasco (Oregon) on October 1. Mrs. Everett Sterling announces that she will open dress-making parlors over the Racket store on Second street. She will be glad to meet any of her friends or others who desire work.
