Hey! Maybe you should take another look! Yaquina Bay is still there! The tiny town of New Port has grown since then and officially swollowed up the town of Yaquina. There is a likely hood that they are under the town of New Port as what was your town is now considered a sunburb or part of the other and so technickly non-existant. You might wish to check with the local Genealogy Society as well as the Oregon Historical Society in Portland, Oregon for possible records. Becky Hogenkamp, librarian at South Wasco County Library in Maupin, Oregon contacted me the recently to share something she is really excited about. An old book with the caption Tygh Valley Drug Store has been donated to the library. It contains prescription blanks from November 1904 to October 1905 of patients of Dr. John L. Elwood. Becky says the book contains many local family names in the Maupin-Tygh Valley area and what they were prescribed. Becky has been attempting to gather as much data for research in the library as possible She will continue to let us know when new materials arrive at the library and is very helpful answering queries. BIG VALLEY GAZETTE BIEBER, LASSEN COUNTY, CAL. WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 1, 1905 Word was received here Tuesday, says the Lake County Examiner, that an unknown sheepman of Silver Lake [Oregon] and a Mr. McKune, another Silver Lake sheepman, had some trouble over the range. The man went to McKunes camp about 20 miles east of Silver Lake and a shooting serape resulted, in which McKune had one of his thumbs shot off. The six shots that were fired, were said to be awarded, equally between the two combatants. Mr. McKune came to Paisley Monday to have his wound dressed. So far as we have heard, no arrests have been made. Salinas Weekly Index Thursday, 3 May 1894 Over 100 Years Old -- Mrs. Henrietta WILSON, the grandmother of Mrs. James A. HORTON of Salinas, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John STEPHENS, in Mercer county, Illinois, March 28, 1894. The deceased was born in Maryland, September 8, 1893, and was consequently in the 101st year of her age at the time of her death. When quite young she was married to Noble GRIMES in Ohio, and shortly afterwards they moved to Indiana, where her husband died. A few years afterwards she married Allen WILSON and in 1835 they moved to Illinois. In 1854 her 2nd husband died. To her fist marriage were born 3 children, one of whom, Noble GRIMES, resides in Oregon and is nearly 75 years old. To the last union were born 7 children. A local paper states that Mrs. WILSON was the oldest person in Mercer county, Illinois, and perhaps the oldest Methodist in this world, she having belonged to that church over 80 years. She retained the use of her faculties in a marked degree to the last. Her sight was keen, her hearing good and memory excellent. The morning of her death she was up early and drank a cup of coffee. Shortly afterwards she asked to be helped to her bed where she died as peacefully as though she were going to sleep. The rodeo museum in Pendleton has information on a Despain who was a famous rodeo star. His sister, Rose, was a registered nurse during WWI. She dropped the de and became just Spain. It's possible that other members of the family did the same.
Thanks, if they were born in 1869 I don't think they are in the phone book now (joke). Delbert
