    1. Casner/Carsner Descendants
    2. Elizabeth Freeman
    3. I am researching my Casner/Carsner family that arrived in Oregon in 1852. The family consited of the mother, Jincy Jane Casner, her eleven sons and one daughter. The last name is often spelled Carsner - sometimes it is spelled both ways on one document. Two sons (William and Daniel) mined a fortune in the CA gold fields; they shared their wealth with the rest of the family; they were eventually murdered in 1876 in west Texas. One of these two married in CA and left a wife and son; descendants remain to date in CA but spell the name Carsoner. The only daughter, Nancy Jane 'Jo' married into the Fields family. Descendants remain in OR to date. There was a split in the family in late 1874 and the mother, five sons, 2 grown grandsons move to AZ. They spell the name Casner. There are extensive living descendnats of these. The mother, Jincy Jane Casner, and two sons, Riley and Moses, settle in the Yavapai County area of AZ. One son (Henry) is believed to have been killed in OR in 1865 (I am working on evidence of this). One son (Jonas) dies in 1864 in OR but leaves many descendants. Another son (Andrew or A.J.) lived in the OR/WA area; many descendants. Another son (James) simply disappears after 1883; he married once in Linn Co and once in Grant Co. Two sons (Ebenezer and Benjamin) died in IA before the family migrated to OR. The oldest son (John) roves through the west after the family's move to AZ and is thought to have died in NM or TX (he was one wild man). I have collected extensive information on this very illustrous family and am in contact with many descendants but still have a few gaps in the information. I would like to communicate with anyone who might have connections to the line (if you are connected, you will know it). Those that remained in the pacific northwest spell the name Carsner. Those that migrated to AZ and elsewhere spell the name Casner. Allied familes are Freel, Parkinson, Kisor, Combs, Olney, Hayworth, Fields, Robinson, Frakes, Dunn, Reeves, Officer, Frizzel to mention a few.

    3. I want to thank everyone who responded to my post earlier this week and determining when land was disposed of. I live in Oklahoma and researchign by long distance is a real challenge. I did learn that the records I need to access are in the Linn County Courthouse, and thru information provided in one of the responses, I now have an avenue to search the records. Again, my appreciation to all that responded. Liz Freeman In OK!

    3. Phil: Your are absolutely correct - it is Linn County (Albany Courthouse). I realized that after I hit the send button. Sometimes my mind and fingers don't see the same things. I'm working on the Carsners out of Grant County and the Casners out of Linn County - it gets confusing to me at times - they are all one and the same family of the mother and 11 brothers and 1 sister (and also Wheeler County). Thanks for bringing this to my attention. Liz Freeman In OK! [email protected] wrote: > I will try to find a 'researcher for a fee' for Grant County to search for > me. > Grant Co? 3. Anne: Thank you so much for response. At least now I know to look in the courthouse (every state is different). Unfortunately, I live in Oklahoma. I will try to find a 'researcher for a fee' for Grant County to search for me. Again, my appreciation. Liz Freeman In OK! Anne Comer <[email protected]> wrote: Elizabeth, if you live in Oregon and are able to go to the County Court House in Albany you can search through the actual old Linn County land records. Jane Casner is in the DLC index. Quite possibly you will find information on the claim itself and on later transactions of her land, if and when she sold it or parts of it. And you should be able to get photocopies of the documents made. I did that for Powell and Crabtree documents. They are a treasure. However, some of the counties have been turning their old documents over to the State. In that case they should be in Salem. Also, in some instances, record keepers are photocopying the records and destroying the old books because, THEY CLAIM, storage space is limited. I don't think that has happened in Oregon, but it is something to think about. What a crime it is when the actual beautiful hand written documents are destroyed. Photocopies are not the same as viewing, or touching the real page. Anne On Tuesday, May 3, 2005, at 09:59 PM, Elizabeth Freeman wrote: > I have a family that arrived in OR in Oct 1852. 1. Question Re DLC
    2. Elizabeth Freeman
    3. I have a family that arrived in OR in Oct 1852. In Dec 1852 Jincy Jane Casner took a DLC in Linn County. I have located her on the 1860 OR Linn County census. I know that at least some of the sons were still in Linn County in 1865. I have been unsuccessful in locating her or any of her 12 sons on the 1870 OR Census. In early 1875 she and several of her sons migrated to AZ arriving there in April 1875. My question is this: How would she have disposed of the land? Where would records of the disposition of the land be located? In Linn Co or in the OR State Archives or elsewhere? Any suggestions on how I might research for disposition of the land would be appreciated.
