    3. Some person some time abt 1 month ago, got angry as she published an Obit with a certain persons name who happened to still be alive that weas related and or attended the funeral. That was the reason the person gave. I didn't see the Obit but was from one of the newspapers in Oregon, ( the Dallas), I think., that she has been doing for a long time. They complained so now she don't do it. Made a big fuss etc. Our Genealogy is getting much bad things being done to us getting it. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Sheridan" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, May 08, 2005 11:05 AM Subject: [OREGON] Re: OREGON-D Digest V05 #98 > > > > Boy this way you have to send message with Genealogy from newspapers now > > >is awful. > > I have a fellow researcher who is a public school librarian. When I first started putting newspaper information on a county website in 1999, I asked her advice pertaining to newspaper articles and copyright laws. I have finally located that article in my files. This is what she wrote: "Newspaper info. is copyrighted the same as other items in print. I had to get a permission letter to abstract 1939 Pioneer ed. of our local newspaper. However, the editors are usually quite cooperative and will graciously provide you the "published with permission of..." if you just ask & explain the situation. Anything older than 1920 is free of copyright. Also keep in mind that info. is not copyrightable, just the format. You could index the info. and not need their permission." I believe Earline has permission of the newspaper. If that is true, that's the only permission she needs. And, if the article is older than 1920 she needs no one's permission. Sheridan

    3. Boy this way you have to send message with Genealogy from newspapers now is awful. Just because of one sour apple. Newspapers are PUBLIC and that person should not be able to tell you what you can do. I think that they have done the same as that bag yrs ago with prayer in schools. I see many other lists with the same still giving us newspaper vitals and other news as you were doing. So why should you be treated any different because of " one bad fly in the ointment ", as they say. Why let this one person tell you what to do and make more work for you by having to send so many more messages for the one as you did before???? Some of the names as I have found before I wasn't connected to directly but a person listed was connected to my family elsewhere. So a person still may get info for themselves but wouldn't know if article with them named in , without reading the whole article. I would like to receive the whole article every time you send it out. How do I get my name on list for this, without replying to each message separately??? Please send me the whole articles you are sending out each time. 1. Update: Columbian Cem, Portland, Mult Co, OR
    2. Just a quick update on the future of the Historic Columbian Cemetery located on Columbia Blvd in Portland, Multnomah County, Oregon (just south of Vancouver WA off of I-5): There is a meeting being scheduled for June 24th, 2005, to be held at the Kenton Fire House (time yet to be determined), concerning the transfer of the Columbian Cemetery to the new cemetery association; Historic Columbian Cemetery (HCC). The old association (CCA) board members and caretaker will be resigning, and a vote of the Families will allow the new HCC to take over and begin restoration and preservation of the cemetery. For anyone having family buried at the cemetery, please contact the Friends of Historic Columbian Cemetery (FOHCC) for further information on how to attend the meeting and vote on the transfer: http://www.fohcc.org/ [email protected] This is very exciting news for the Families and FOHCC. As soon as the transfer of the cemetery business to HCC, we will begin actively seeking grants and donations to restore and protect the Historic cemetery. Help Needed: FOHCC is in need volunteers to assist FOHCC in cemetery mowing and cleanup before Memorial Day, and the veteran's flag donation ceremony. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!! Our volunteers are currently mowing the entire cemetery by hand with push mowers. If anyone has a riding mower, and is willing to either volunteer their time to mow, or lend the mower to FOHCC volunteers for a few hours, we would be grateful. Also needed is someone with a Chipper willing to donate their time to help clean up the latest prunings. Please direct questions and comments to: [email protected] Thanks! 1. Looking for James Carsner/Casner
    2. Elizabeth Freeman
    3. James A. 'Jim' Carsner/Casner arrived in Oregon in 1852 with his mother and several of his brothers where they settled in Linn County. He was born 12-1839 in MO. On 5-19-1858 in Linn County he married Clementine Hayworth. I don't know if she died or they divorced. Then on 12-1-1883 in Grant County, Oregon he married Sarah R. Olney. I am endeavoring to determine if he had children with either wife? What became of wife #1 and wife #2? What became of hime? The marriage records are all that I have found. Would like to communicate with anyone who may have any information on this family.
