Yes thats a good thing to note. I did not even know that, but then I have not had to address the issue before and I not had to order out of state . So thanks for that note. I do go there, not that much in this nice weather tho. Yup, but I mentioned it before people started asking for newer ones. Thanks for the info. I've sent an email already to get a copy as well to another person to see if there is a death notice/obit in a newspaper. Keeping my fingers crossed this will be "my guy". Hello, I'm looking for a list of wagon train arrivals to Fort Walla Walla in 1862. In particular, a wagon train guided by John Jacobs, who started from Soda Springs, just out side of Fort Hall. Does anyone know where I would start looking? thanks, Sue in Oklahoma Sue Schrems http://westernamericana.blogspot.com/

Darlene: The person who checked the WA index said "Washington Digital Index" - that was what I asked them to check. I tried many times to get into it on the WA site, but it kept locking up my computer so I asked someone on teh WA list to check and they did. I looked once on Ancestry, but I'm going to recheck this coming week. I agree, Ancestry is not always accurate, and they give you very little information. While my guy's name is Malendeth Alfred Dunn (b.2-20-1881 KS) he was often called Dick and sometimes Calvin. I thought I would put a post on the WA list to see if I could find someone who would check the microfilm or a hard copy list. A person did find an Alfred Dunn on the OR list who died in 1948 in Marion County - I'm working on that one now to try to determine if he is my guy. Thanks. Here is the web page where you can go into the State Archives and order the death cert, between 1903 and 1946, and they will send them to you either by mail or RDF file e mail, and send you a notice of the cost.. they don't want the money before, they will let you know if they have it then send you the statement.. 5.00 for each Death Cert.. I have done this several times and it is well worth it, and if you go to the Archives. have the county and Cert # where they died, they bring you the County of the one you are searching in and you can copy them for a quarter.. they have all kinds of records you can copy or request to be copied.. this web page will tell you and have the address... http://arcweb.sos.state.or.us/reference.html Our Oregon Archives is one of the very best in the USA.. Land records, Marriage records, Divorce Records, you name it they have it.. for all the counties.. Well worth a trip to salem that is for sure,, GOOD LUCK Rosalie in Central Ore

I am searching for reesearchers/descendants of the line of Malendeth Alfred (Dick) Dunn (b.1881 KS) and his wife Mable Louise (b.1884 TX). I know they had three children (Deloris-b.1908, Vernon-b.1910, and David-b.1914). They were in Beaver County, OK on the 1910 census. Dick registered for the draft in 1918 out of Beaver County, OK. I have not located him on the 1920 census nor his wife nor any of the kids. I have located Dick and the two sons on the 1930 census in Lewis Co., WA where some of his cousins lived and one of his brothers. His sister (Rose Dunn Noble Fleming) moved there in 1946 and died there in 1955. His brother, John Dunn, died there also. His father, William Harrison Dunn, died there in 1890 and is buried in the Salkum cemetery. Would like to make contact with any Dunn researcher/descendant who might be able to assist me in finding when/where Dick died and where he is buried.
Hi Clyde: Thank you for taking the time to respond to my request. If I do not get an offer for a lookup, I will take the route you suggest. Since my library takes over 6 months to order an interlibrary loan, that will be my second option. I'm glad to know that microfilms ARE available for the period in question. You can order the Coos Bay Newspaper on micro-film for that period through inter-library loan at your local public libray. They are usually free. Get the papers for that two or three weeks following the death. Also check with the funeral home. ----- Original Message ----- From: CCombs<mailto:ccombs@eskimo.com> To: OREGON-L@rootsweb.com<mailto:OREGON-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, August 28, 2006 9:43 PM Subject: [OREGON] Obit lookup - CASAVAN Hi, Is there anyone near Coos Bay who could look up an obituary for me, please? Would someone be so kind as to check the Oregon Death Index for me to see if there is a listing for Malendeth Alfred (Dick) Dunn (b.2-20-1881 KS). I have located him on the 1910 OK Census; have not located him anywhere on the 1920 census; and have located him on the 1930 census in Lewis Co., WA enumerated 4-2-1930. By that time he was a widow and apparently his only daughter, Dorothy, was married and living elsewhere. His two sons, Vernon and David, are with him on the 1930 census. Vernon dies in 1932 in NM while visiting family there. I have concluded Malendeth (Dick) Dunn died between 4-2-1930 (date of 1930 census) and 9-6-1945 (obit of his sister which does not list him as a survivor-his other sister/brotehr are listed). Malendeth was a truck operator and hauled friehgt, so he could be almost anywhere. I have checked SSDI, Oklahoma deaths, NM deaths, someone checked the WA digital archives for me - all to no avail. I would appreciate any information if someone could check the Oregon death index for me. Liz Freman In Oklahoma!
