I thought in the beginning Orcadia-L was created to discuss Orkney culture, and Orkney-L was set up around that same time for sharing Orkney genealogy info. Sigurd Towrie and Ann Rendall created the lists for those specific purposes, I believe. That's what memory tells me, but of course I may be wrong. It was sometime back in the last century.
