Thanks, Mike, for the information on Highland Brewing Company. I read about all their beers and it's got my mouth watering already. I especially liked their list of who in Orkney has the stuff on draft. The problem I found with Orkney Brewery and Raven Ale was that no one in Orkney seemed to like Raven, and it was nearly impossible to find. They told me they sent most of it south. The Barony Hotel used to have it on draft, coming out of a wonderful raven shaped tap, but then they dropped it. A couple of visits ago I arrived and went straightaway to Orkney Brewery and bought a cask of it which we set up behind the house (Odin) and we could nip out anytime, fill a jug and enjoy. You can be sure we'll be trying several of the new ones, and the originals as well. Also, there was a link to the scallop and lobster outfit, which sounds like a rival for Orkney Sea Faire, a place we visit often when there. Scooping scallops, oysters (best in the world), cockles (unobtainable here in the states) mussels, and of course lobsters out of huge sea fed tanks a short stone's throw from the sea itself is a real joy and makes for a fine evening. Damn, but I'm getting hungry. Too bad I have to wait so long. The plan is London this August, where I'll be singing with a liturgical choral group in Westminster Abbey, and then Orkney the following summer, back in Odin if we can book it (Olive Taylor, who owns it, seems curiously unavailable at the moment.) If not there, then there are plenty of other fine places to stay. Perhaps we'll see some of you then. Skull Splitter and Dark Island are both available in this area, thank the Lord and the US Customs outfit. I am a frequent purchaser of the same at an import shop about 6 miles East of my home in Casa Grande, Arizona, US. I'm glad that this contact occurred - I'm out of both. By the Bye, the temperature outside our back door right now is 104 F. O to be in my Granddad's home just NW of Pierowall, Westray. Perhaps a few less Skullsplitter Beer(s) [covered extensively in 2007 as the archives prove] would allow the list is to have an intelligent conversation without resorting to schoolyard name-calling or characterizations which are impossible to arrive at via this medium. All, I am utterly opposed to censorship of any kind, either by a moderator or by a government, or by the church. I hate to think that someone sits in judgement over our remarks here and lets some through and throws others away. We have seen that in Nazi Germany, Fascist Italy, Soviet Russia and many other places. Orkney, I thought, would be the last place we would find such a practice. Say it isn't so. If it is, you'll certainly have one less person to censor. The ultimate censorship tool is the delete key. Free speech for all!!!
