    3. We had about an inch of snow last night and this morning in Birsay, then it snowed again a bit this afternoon. It's just been sleeting now for a bit. The Met Office is predicting snow on and off for tonight and tomorrow snow plus gales! It was lovely this afternoon when the sun shone brightly for a couple of hours and we could see the snowy hills of Hoy. We live on a hill, so the driveway is always difficult in snow and ice, but we did make it to the village [Dounby] today to stock up before the next storm hits. No newspapers today, nor any mail delivery. But we're snug as bugs in a rug with our books, cats, DVDs, and the essential cups of tea. 3. When autumn comes, I have this urge to store food for the winter. Maybe my grandparents were squirrels! It's fun to stock up on fresh food and drink before a storm, and if we're snowed in for four days, we enjoy our 'free' days. But that enjoyment is always dependent on heat and electricity. I hope you have fuel and a fireplace, too, in case you lose your utilities. Where I live, sleet and gale force winds are a formula for utility loss.
