    3. Hi- Several cooknooks I have list Clapshot- neeps & tatties- as an Orkney dish. I've looked in the OED for an etymology of "clapshot" but not there and I can't find any reference to it in other cookbooks. Any ideas 1/ why it's considered Orcadian (as opposed to say Northern Scotland-it's listed in some cookbooks as a "Scottish" dish- but the Orkney recipes -I checked 3- all call for a pinch of nutmeg or mace) 2/ where does the word come from ?
