I have neglected to report that I received my (handsome) copy of Fiona's book, Merrybegotten, her fictionalised account of her family in Orkney. I enjoyed it thoroughly: well framed and written, thankfully a glossary (although I needed it less than I had anticipated) ,interesting tidbits of 19th/early 20th century daily culture and social reality, nicely developed characters. A good read altogether: well done, Fiona! ************* I have a window sticker from The Orcadian in my car. A neighbor saw it and reported that she had a friend who had Orkney connections (or perhaps just affection): we are everywhere!
