I certainly am enjoying the Blog and pictures. Can someone tell me in better detail about the Millennium stone? What is carved on it and what is the significance of the carvings? I did a search on Sigurd's site using Millennium stone with no success. I think I've seen some mention before of it, but can't remember much. Any able to help and tell me a little more about it? Thank you, Pat Tirabasso

It was carved by Grimness man Willie Budge and erected to mark the Millennium. The stone is decorated with a number of carvings relevant to Orkney in the previous millennium, including a cross, a Pictish crescent and V rod, a viking ship, a pair of hands etc etc. ===== -- Sigurd Towrie Blackhall - Kirbister - Stromness - Orkney Heritage of Orkney: www.orkneyjar.com Home: sigurd@orkneyjar.com
It's been a hectic few weeks.... New articles online covering the Mesolithic flints at Minehowe, the Knowe o' Skea Iron Age cemetery in Westray and the Quoygrew excavation now online.
