    3. Stephan Even when you are frustrated you are a delight to read. I agree with the importance of recovering the old Orkney dialects. It's not just the words that are important but the reflection of how a people looks and thinks on their world is lost. We in the Americas know that if you want to take away a groups culture, you begin by taking away their language. 2. Cla thee hole min, hid'll be twathree inywiy. Dead right. When we moved back in 1999 my wife suggested I pitch a straight-talking discussion programme to Radio Orkney, called Cla Thee Hole with Steven Heddle. I found the title a bit too vivid. It's a fantastically offensive phrase though, used with such innocence. Translation left as an exercise. 3. Amen to that Karen! An Orkney Dictionary? Really? Didn't know there 'was' such a thing! I just listened to the radio program though--wonderfully interesting-- talking about three people with DWIs and 'the strangles' disease for horses. Only three DWIs, I say to myself? And horse diseases actually make the news? Yipe, people talk to one another with concern about the care of horses? Wow! Sounds like a 'lovely' place. Where's the violence? The bombings, robberies, killings, etc? No wonder the archaelogical stones and other evidence still exists on Orkney/Shetland; sounds like kind people live there! They have a half-hour programme in the morning and an hour in the evening, but only during the winter - I expect this will finish at the end of this month. Enjoy Mike Judy wrote: >Mike-- >Wow, nifty! 3. Finally managed to access my now defunct zip disk. The Warebeth chamber was, according to the report played on the radio in April 2002, found about 20 years ago when a crag in a flagstone was noticed on the beach under the cliff below the Warebeth cemetery. The flagstone was removed and for a few days locals had a good explore of the chamber, which was accessible via a set of stone steps. Returning a few days later they found it had been mysteriously "concreted over overnight". The chamber in question is undoubtedly the broch (o' Warebeth/Munkerhoose) well, exposed on a naturally formed ledge on the cliff face on the same old ground surface level on which the broch was built. Below this cover, steep, almost vertical steps led down behind the section to a very finely constructed well chamber. In the water athe bottom and banked against the steps (down which it had been thrown) was a mass of midden material, in particular a number of coprolites (fossilised human excrement). This was excavated in 1980 after the discovery of the chamber. Sigurd
