There are five generations of "John Ambrose Jr." in my family. My grandfather used only the name "Ambrose Wilson" all his life, including on his gravestone. The one exception, and how I discovered his real name, was on the 1900 or 1910 census for Bay County, Michigan. Been too long since I looked at it and I don't remember for sure which year it was. Family names and abode were correct, so I know it is him. Another "current" example: my great-granddaughter is named KayDence. No one cares for the name so she is called Kady. (Pronounced ka-tie) I suspect that KayDence will be used for legal purposes only and she will be called Kady for the rest of her life. She's not quite age 2, so that's a long time . . . Can you imagine her descendants searching for records on her?!?!?!? <g> Dee ----- Original Message ----- From: "Joyce Stevens" <joycestevens@twmi.rr.com> To: <ontario@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, January 21, 2012 4:58 PM Subject: [ONTARIO] use of middle > Often middle names seem to appear as used in lieu of the first > Name. Thanks for your reply. I am curious as to where Dence comes from, possibly a family name? I've always like the name Katie. -----Original Message----- From: ontario-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:ontario-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Dee's Genealogy Sent: Saturday, January 21, 2012 6:26 PM To: ontario@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [ONTARIO] use of middle There are five generations of "John Ambrose Jr." in my family.
