Hi, I'm having a devil of a time finding anything on the following people: Robert McDowell and his wife Caroline or Catharine. The only recorded item I can currently find is for their son's marriage record: Vol 10-Pg 91 Thomas McDOWDE, 28, farmer, Ireland, Manvers, s/o Robert & Catharine, married Ellen McDOWDE, 19, Manvers, same, d/o John (no mothers name given), witn: Henry HEASLIP & Thomas BEALL both of Lindsay on March 18, 1870 at Lindsay Transcribers have variously transcribed McDowell as McDowde (as above) or even McDoude! That said, I have even tried to search through census records by first name and still cannot find anything on either person. We believe that Robert was born in Ireland (likely Ulster or Bangor) around 1820 and that he perhaps died in Janetville in 1914. We don't have a maiden last name for Caroline (or Catharine). I have searched in both Durham County, where their son was married and in Simcoe County, where their son settled after his marriage, and neither county has any record of a Robert (as I said, I tried searching just on the first name) with a close enough last name and a close enough age for the census' of 1871, 1881, 1891, 1901 and 1911. Their son Thomas' 1901 census, he indicated that he immigrated in 1861 (although the 1911 census indicated that he immigrated in 1860). We do know that he married his cousin, Ellen McDowell, and have plenty of information on her and her family. Any thoughts/input would be appreciated!
