I have found him in the 1871 Census of Ontario, he is said to be born Ireland about 1817, which matches the above index. He is stated to be married, and is a Presbyterian. His wife is jane aged 40, born Ontario, and their children are Ann Eliza 14, William J 11, Thomas Jas 9, Catharine M 8, and Emily 4, all born Ontario. The question is, is the family of Nixey an accurate transcription? I have no Nixey's yet in Ireland that early on, 1817, and so far I've not found the family in any later censuses. Any help would be appreciated. many thanks, Jon *********** Ten People All Genealogists Should Follow On Twitter: http://www.geneabloggers.com/ten-people-genealogists-follow-twitter/ Search Ontario Genealogy & Resources at http://olivetreegenealogy.com/can/ont/ ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to ONTARIO-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message
Hi Susan, I think you've pretty much nailed it that Nixey is incorrect as far as the 1871 census is concerned, and the entries you sent certainly point to the surname as being Nixon, not nixey. sincerest thanks for helping to clear this one up, it's deeply appreciated. Kindest regards, Jon
