Hi Bonnie: On this page, scroll down to Land Records: http://www.archives.gov.on.ca/english/common/collections.htm#land Click on How to Use the Ontario Land Record Index [ca. 1780-1920] [HTML, PDF] and in that document is this paragraph: Patent -transfers ownership of a parcel of Crown land to a private individual or organization. To see whether an individual or organization acquired ownership of a parcel of land, check the Indexes to Land Patents in Series RG 53-55 (arranged by township, 1793-1852) and RG 53-56 (arranged by surname, 1826-1967). Copies of the patents must be obtained from the Ministry of Natural Resources, Lands and Natural Heritage Branch, Crown Land Registry, 300 Water Street, P.O. Box 7000, Peterborough, ON, K9J You may want to read the entire info page in case there is more info on obtaining same. Also, when you're done, go back to the Land Records heading and click on the other heading: From Grant to Patent: A Guide to Early Land Settlement Records, [ca. 1790 to ca. 1850] [HTML, PDF] I've never done this myself, just found the info on the Archives of Ontario website. Hello everyone: Most libraries have the index in their own locations - The index comes in two sets of microfiche cards - one set is by Surname, the other is by location - then you can take the information (#'s, dates, etc) from the fiche index and send away for the appropriate documents. That's the easiest way I know to do it. The next best way is to order in the microfilm with your county/area on it and look up the patent vol and page # and then send away for the documents that way. Either way is easy Sher At 08:55 AM 9/21/07, you wrote: >I went to the site and there is no index of names.
