Hello Listers: Can an American Citizen, whose grandfather was born and lived in Canada, move back to Canada and become a Canadian citizen? My Grandfather was born in Blenheim, Ontario, Kent County Canada in 1867. In 1879 he became a naturalized U. S. citizen. The father of his grandfather, who also migrated to the United States and became a naturalized U. S. citizen in 1879, was born and lived in Burritt's Rapids, Ontario, Grenville county, Canada in 1838. Thank you. Good Morning Loren: You would have to get a copy of the Citizenship Act of Canada and of the USA for that time frame to know what rules applied and whether dual citizenship was recognized then. If, on becoming a US Citizen, the Canadian was asked to give up his Canadian citizenshiip, then he may have had to apply for it when returning to Canada.
