For many years I have been searching for William Gilbert, baptized September 14, 1823 in North Brentor, Lamerton, Devonshire England. Nothing could be found of him after the 1841 Census of this locality. I know many of our Gilbert family from the Lamerton area came to Ontario, namely Brantford, Cobalt area, Toronto area, and Oshawa area. I see there is a Wm Gilbert, 686, in Names of Emigrants from the 1845-1847 Records of James Allison, Emigrant Agent at Montreal published by the Irish Research Group, Ottawa Branch, OGS, PO Box 8346, Ottawa ON K1G 3H8. FHL No. US/CAN 971W3n. If anyone has this book, I would very much appreciate a look-up. Hannah Gilbert born England lived Liberty St Durham Bowmanville age 84 died 29 Sept 1905, widow, husband William Gilbert . She is in the 1881 census, a widow, with these children, Joseph, 28, born Ontario Blacksmith, Agnes 26 born Ontario and Rich Gilbert, 24, born Ontario, all Bible Christian. She is also in the 1901 ceensus all alone. I believe I have some details of marriage etc of Richard. It would be wonderful if someone knew of this family and particularly if this was OUR William!!
