It is always possible that enlistees gave the wrong year of birth - to make them appear older or younger than what they really were. He might also be found in either the 1901 or 1911 Canadian Census. If you do find him tell me, I will make sure the Home Child record is linked to his census record. I believe I have found him listed as entering Quebec at the age of 13 in 1893 on the SS Sardinian that sailed from Liverpool in the UK. If it is him he must have returned to the UK at some point to meet and marry Isabella in 1914. This poses questions as to whether he came back as part of the war effort, and whether he joined the Canadian or British Army, and then returned to Canada with Isabella.

Hi Robin, I did check the lists you suggested and saw the Devonshire record, but I discounted it as it was a different area from where he was actually born. There is no link to the 1911 census as far as I can see, but as Arthur was married in 1914 in the UK, it was a slim chance he would be listed. Have been on the war medals site, but there are far too many Arthur's to pinpoint the right one without a regiment/number. He is listed on 1881 UK Census aged 1, but then didn't appear on the 1891 Census, which led me to believe that he was the same Arthur that was sent to Canada from Liverpool. Thanks again.
