I am a member of Genes Reunited and Lost Cousins and have made amazing contacts through them. As with any submitted family tree you have to take it with a grain of salt and do some discovery on your own, but I was able to contact these people and the wealth of information I acquired was totally worth the small fee. I was in contact with distant cousins who send me copies of pictures as well as certificates that they had acquired. I was even able to get some amazing personal stories. Yes Genes reunited does send out annoying emails every now and then, but I've learned to delete the ones I know are useless...they tell you when someone is trying to contact you about your tree specifically. Lost cousins is unique in that it lets you enter 1881 census info for England and Canada. Therefore you are in contact with people looking at the exact same family. It is pretty neat.
