I am off on an eastern Ontario quest, but I just saw Ancestors in the Attic when I was in Canada and it brought to mind one huge brick wall. I know that Charles Arthur McQuarrie was alive in 1943 and living in Vellore, ON. It is near Sioux Lookout. Vellore doesn't exist any more. I believe that "Art" was working at a mill. In a letter found he mentions going to the "Sioux" and the "Peg" which I think means Sioux Lookout and Winnipeg. There is no one alive who might know when Art died. He was a WWI vet so he may have been buried by the vets. Otherwise, I am sure he had no one else to bury him. I believe his contact was my father in Saskatoon, but I am sure that if this was known that Art was buried where he died. Art was born in Feversham, ON in 1885 and did have a few relatives around Osprey. Besides paying for a death cert. search in 5 year increments beginning I guess in 1943 (at great govt. charge), is there any coroner data base or any other way to find him? Hi Bonnie, I think I would direct some attention to Kenora. Originally the name of the town was Rat Portage and the boundary between Manitoba and Ontario runs almost through the town. The distance between Kenora and Sioux Lookout is 145 miles. The distance between Sioux Lookout and Winnipeg is 275 miles. Some sites that may be useful: Ancestor Seekers of Kenora (Genealogy) Ann McMunn > e mail: rlgray@voyageur.ca http://www.kenora.net/manitoba/links.htm http://www.siouxlookout.ca/detail.php?id=12&tb=departments The Canadian Government is/was keeping a record of WWI vets, whether or not they required medical assistance or disability pensions. You might try writing to the Department of Veterans Affairs in Ottawa re your search. However, that business of the 93 years re Privacy may fall into the picture. Good luck with this one Bonnie. Doreen PS - There is currently a Vellore in Ontario, but it is in Vaughan Township of York county - not anywhere near Sioux. ======== >From: Trunthsams@aol.com >Reply-To: ontario@rootsweb.com >To: ontario@rootsweb.com >Subject: [ONTARIO] How to find an obit after 1945 >Date: Mon, 16 Jul 2007 22:54:59 EDT > >I am off on an eastern Ontario quest, but I just saw Ancestors in the Attic >when I was in Canada and it brought to mind one huge brick wall. > >I know that Charles Arthur McQuarrie was alive in 1943 and living in >Vellore, >ON.
