Hi Gerry: Did you get any help with your Sarah Thornthwaite question? What makes you think they married in Elgin County? There are some Elgin County marriages at the LDS FHC here in London, Ontario. I can check them if you still need that info. Where did she die? Her death certificate in Ontario should give her maiden name. Don't forget that the marriage of the children sometimes gives the mother's maiden name if you are lucky. I'm trying to find proof that Sarah was, in fact, a Thornthwaite - does anyone have any suggestions? Marriage registrations ususally give the bride's maiden name, but Sarah's 1857 marriage was before Ontario kept marriage registrations. Birth registrations sometimes give the maiden name of the mother: Thomas & Sarah had 3 children born in Ontario 1858, 1860 and 1863; however, I cannot find birth registrations because they were born before Ontario births were registered.
