Perhaps, if he remained in Ontario and married, he did so prior to the available record date for marriages of 1857. You might want to look at the 1881 Canada Census for Ontario at www.familysearch.org as there are a number of persons with surname of Lipsey. However only one shows a birth location of Ireland.
