The Toronto Reference Library has an ''online form'' for queries. Besides Toronto they have many city directories for across Ontario . (maybe other provinces - maybe others on the list can address this?) http://www.torontopubliclibrary.ca/ask_index.jsp they will search 3 city directories in a 5 min time span. When you get your answer - send in another 'online' request. It's usually same day response and is a good way to keep track of people. Ask for lookups for Jane Biggs. It probably will say in brackets (wid Sidney). When her name no long appears in the directories, she most likely had died and gives you a timeframe to search for her burial. Another question for the readership "What other resources will the Toronto Library lookup? - do they have an alpha index file (mostly for b m d's) - if you have a death date will they search the newspaper for you? This is from his army record - the Pensions people are very efficient! What happened to his wife Jane Harriet, nee Clapham? She was my Grandmother's little sister, and born in Bangalore in 1870. Matthew married Gwendoline Rose SMITH in 1919, and Charles married Bertha Evelyn HOWE in 1922, both in Toronto. Charles and his wife went to Rhode Island on a business trip in July 1940: they were then living at 144, Hopedale Avenue, Toronto.
OK, but my grandmother never changed the telephone entry after my grandfather died.
