Hi Peggy: Now I understand! Prior to 1855, there was no official registration with Scotland's registry office. Bmd's were recorded in what is called the Old Parish Registers which were just what the name implies, Register books in which the minister in each Parish in Scotland recorded the vital events of that particular parish. You can order a copy of the Old Parish Register entry for the couple thru this site: http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/ or go to your local LDS family history centre. On the above-noted page, if you scroll down the page to Getting Started, there is a tutorial on researching people in Scotland. This page will give you info on what you may expect to find on an Old Parish Register marriage entry: http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/content/help/index.aspx?r=554&406 Some marriage records have more info than others. There is no guarantee that an OPR will give you anything more than the names of the parties, etc. Click on Example of OPR banns and marriages image to see what yours may look like. You can purchase online the marriage entry that you seek, if you choose. Info on fees, etc, here: http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/content/help/index.aspx?r=554&409 I assume it is this entry on the LDS website that you are referring to: FamilySearchâ„¢ International Genealogical Index v5.0 British Isles MARGARET DOCHERTY Female Event(s): Marriages: Spouse: DAVID JOHNSTONE Marriage: 31 DEC 1828 Gorbals, Lanark, Scotland Messages: Extracted marriage record for locality listed in the record.
