    3. Hello Marlene, I'm no expert, but I did have a military ancestor I was able to find records for. Which Regiment records did you go through - the 100th or Royal Canadian Rifles? The 100th reg of foot wasn't raised till 1858 in Canada. John Nidd would have been about 46. It doesn't seem likely to me that he would join up for another regiment. The regiment set off for England in 1858 and was stationed in Gilbralter from 1859-1863. Also since you found John Nidd in Norman Crowder's book British Army Pensioners Abroad.. from WO120 as receiving pension in 1857 I think ref to 100th reg may be inaccurate. Have you looked at WO120 yet? His marriage record says he was Private, Royal Canadian Rifles in 1849. The rifles would likely have been the one he was discharged from. But you can check these other records to be sure. Besides the soldier documents WO97 and the Chelsea Regimental records WO120 there are other records you can check. You've probably already read about what types of records are available, but just in case, there are also the following: WO 10 - 16 the muster books and pay lists WO 25 Regimental description books If you search the PRO catalogue for "Canadian Rifles" using Series code WO only, you will see these records described.
