    3. How would a 14-yr-old know about a place like Birtle in 1905 and decide he was going to go there to be a farmer - his family were not farmers in Eng. I would think there would be family/friends there and in 1906 he would be staying with some family. Of course we don't know if he ever reached Birtle. A family relative b. 1935 in Sask. remembers him coming to visit her family in Sask. I would expect that visit to be sometime after 1940. Catherine > Oops, you're way ahead of me. 3. I had a family friend who arrived from UK at age 14, worked his way over on a ship; became an errand boy, then a year later a milkman and five years later bought the dairy. He died at age 92 in Montreal. 14 Year old boys who had to survive by their own wits were a lot more self-reliant than we might think. He may have picked up info about Birtle and decided to give farming a try. Don't discount it Cheers!
