    1. [ONTARIO] Gilchrist on the Piercy and Wray families
    2. Good morning Ellen: Good news and bad news ... I can not yet confirm when or where Middleton Wray died and is buried but Ann Wray died March 9, 1876 aged 56 years and 9 months and was stated to have been born in England, and was a farmer's wife (suggesting that he was still living, otherwise it might have said Farmer's Widow). So this should be your Mount Teggart lady. Since there is so much detail in this message, I am taking the liberty of not citing the actual sources but can tell you that this was all found on ancestry and family search. So happy confirming ... the following is a quick synopsis of what I have found for you tonight. Middleton Wray and Ann Piercy were married November 7, 1839 by the Rev. John Culham, Wesleyan Methodist Minister. The date you have cited elsewhere in another posting is incorrect. Middleton's family is listed in the 1852 census of Chinguacousy Township, Peel County, Ontario - remember please that while legally called the "1851" census there were no returns taken that year - all of the "Ontario" (Canada West) returns were enumerated in 1852. The enumerator did get carried away with the "ditto" marks for place of birth! 1852 family consists of Middleton Wray, born England, age 36 Ann Wray, born England, age 30 Marg. Wray, age 9 Chr. Wray (male - sic Cecil?), age 5 Thos. Wray, age 3 Mary Ann (sic Hannah?), age 1 - born in 185 Living in a 1 family 1 storey log cabin. 1861 census of Tecumseth Township, Simcoe County, Ontario Middleton, age 48 Ann, age 41 Margaret, age 19 Cecil, age 15 Thomas, age 12 Hann (sic Mary Hannah?), age 10 Jeremiah, age 7 Middleton, age 5 Sarah Jane, age 3 1871 census of Tecumseth Middleton, age 56 Ann, age 50 Jeremiah, age 17 Middleton, age 15 Sarah, age 12 Mary, age 9 So the family seems to consist of 8 children, with room for an infant death circa 1845 between Margaret and Cecil as well as an infant death circa 1853 between Mary Ann (Hannah?) and Jeremiah. Margaret, Cecil, Thomas, Mary Ann (Hannah); Jeremiah, Middleton, Sarah Jane and Mary. I can state with 99% percent surety that all of the children would have been born here in Ontario and not England. I have also looked at most of the marriage records of these children to confirm that statement. By the way Thomas Wray married Margaret McClure - one of the tribe that I specialize in - that is actually what peaked my interest in your situation! However, we are not (yet?!) related or connected, In the 1852 census of Etobicoke there is also a couple of interest namely a John Wray and his wife Rebecca born in the 1780's in England. >From the IGI, Middleton Wray was christened April 23, 1815 in Market Deeping, Lincolnshire, England being a son of John and Rebecca Wray ... so you have another generation of ancestors here! Now to the Piercy side ... Working with the unusal name of Walkington Piercy who you state to be a brother of Ann Wray's ... Walkington Piercy was christened November 2, 1828 in Barmston, Yorkshire, England being a son of (drum rolll please ....) JEREMIAH and JANE PIERCY. MMMM, so (another drum roll please) Anne Piercy, daughter of Jeremiah and Jane was christened April 29, 1821 in Barmston, Yorkshire, England Shall I keep going?????? James Piercy, son of Jeremiah and Jane was christened Nov. 10, 1819 in Kirby Misperton, Yorkshire (based on the following date of the parents marriage James must have quite premature, LOL!) Margaret Jane Piercy, daughter of Jeremiah and Jane was christened March 20, 1825 in Barmston Georgina Piercy, daughter of Jeremiah and Jane was christened Dec. 9, 1826 in Barmston. Thomas Piercy, son of Jeremiah and Jane was christened Feb. 26, 1831 in Barmston. Final drumroll for tonight ... Jeremiah Piercy married Jane WALKINGTON on July 17, 1819 in Kirby Misperton, Yorkshire, England. So, while we still do not have the answer to your original question about the place of burial of Ann Piercy Wray and or Middleton, I hope that you will appreciate these new details. As someone who battles many health issues myself, I understand your having been out of the scene for so many months. I hope and pray that things are going better for you now, and that many more years of good health and good genealogy are yours to enjoy! Sincerely yours, J. Brian Gilchrist, Box 74503, 270 The Kingsway, Etobicoke, ON Canada M9A 5E2 [email protected]
