Hi Dee, Wish I could be of help - but - a few thoughts. 1. Re differences in BiRTH YEARS - on various CENSUS Unlike today - some people may not have known their birth date they may know the aprox - year - or guess at the aprox. year./month. 2. REGISTRATION of DEATH - is only as accurate - as the information known to the informant - which - may at times be way off. * eg. my uncles son in law was the informant on his registration of death - in the 1960's He had the name -correct - but to this day - we don't know where he found the name of the mother - ?? a surname not known to any family members . The given name - not one shown in any family information. He does not remember - where or why he gave that name. - the records are therefor not correct. It would cost $50 to have this amended - The 5 daughters and 3 sons - did no want to pay the fee. and I am not allowed to. 3.CERTIFICATE of INTENT- will probably the most accurate one - since it is an official document - Rather than family history/stories/ beliefs . - which can be incorrect. Certificate of Intent - would this be an application for Citizenship. **Citizenship Papers - the same ? - if not - have you searched State Archive for Michigan - or National Archive in Washington DC - for Citizenship. This may? show names of parents - date and place of birth - hopefully the correct date - and actual place of birth. 4. Marriages of Children: Marriage Registration of the children - will show the names of parents - place of birth of parents - may show actual place - or Canada - may be worth a search. Have you posted to Michigan, to Quebec - Mail Lists - or Message Boards. Message boards you will only receive response to your posting. Wishing you much luck with your research> Cheers, Stella At 12:28 PM 06/04/2010, you wrote: >Hi Listers, > >I'm at a loss. I am lucky enough to possess my grandfather's Declaration of Intent. At Detroit, he renounced his allegiance to Queen Victoria of Great Britain. Yes, it was his express intent to become an American citizen. However, he never did, so I'm guessing he literally was the man without a country. Would like to hear a legal opinion on that. My grandfather was permitted to vote after his renunciation of Britain. Other information on this person I obtained from the Immigration and Naturlization Office which, when I was there, was on East Jefferson in Det roit. I have no idea where it is now held. If you are in the States, I'd check first with your federal senator. Senators have staffs who have access of how to find "stuff like that." I've used them occasionally. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Stella Stanger Sent: Tuesday, April 06, 2010 4:26 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [ONTARIO] Help with what FOUNTAN,LaFOUNTAIN, HILL,. . You mention two adopted children living with the family, but not with the family surname. I wonder if they were British Home Children. If no luck with any resource, suggest you enroll with [email protected] And ask if the children might be. Yhe information you gave meets the criteria. If you don't know about home children, look them up on Google for the subject. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Stella Stanger Sent: Tuesday, April 06, 2010 4:26 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [ONTARIO] Help with what FOUNTAN,LaFOUNTAIN, HILL,. .
