M. Casserly.(the name I couldn't read on the Death Registration.) Charles Alexander, automotive engineer for the police department stated in his evidence that when he examined the truck after the accident he found that neither headlight on the car was working; that the steering gear was defective; that the brakes, both service and emergency, were so worn as to be useless; that the windshield was dirty, and that there was no windshield wiper. The accident, which resulted in the death of Mrs. Conlin, occurred at 8:30pm, September 26, 1930, on Dewhurst Blvd., opposite No. 47. According to the evidence, Mrs. Conlin was crossing the street in the middle of the block. She stepped out from behind a parked automobile and was struck by a truck driven by T. H. Eldridge. She died later at Toronto General Hospital from a fractured skull. "It was a very dark night and I don't think that the driver had a chance to see her." W. Simmons, an eye-witness, testified. Mr. Simmons stated that the truck had one head lamp buring and was travelling at a slow rate. "We are unanimously of the opinion that the driver of the truck should not have attempted to drive it in the poor condition it was proved to be in," the jury in their verdict said. "Also, that had there been better street lighting at this point and good head lights on the car, the accident could have been avoided." -End- Spelling as indexed at Ancestry: Ontario, Canada, Deaths, 1869-1934 and Deaths Overseas, 1939-1947 County of York, Div of Toronto Name: Julia Ann Coulin Death Date: 4 Oct 1909 Death Location: 44 Brunswick Ave, Toronto, York Gender: Female Marital: Widow Age: 66 Estimated birth year: abt 1843 Date of birth: (Blank) Birth Location: Toronto Parents: (Blank) Physician & Informant of death: Dr. Alexander Davidson Cause: Intestinal obstruction Reg. #004917 >From The Toronto Star, Tuesday, October 5, 1909 & Wednesday, October 6, 1909: Deaths in the City CONLIN - At her resience, 44 Brunswick Ave, on Oct 4, 1909, Julia Ann, daughter of the late George and Ellen Robinson and widow of Henry Conlin, in her 66th year. 3. Marg....... you are simply a gem! I've plowed through Ancestry and other sites for the longest time and thought I had used every possible name alteration, but never came up with anything that connected. But you did - you sure did! That family is now complete and I can see where they fit with my own. Thank you so very much for your time and efforts.
