This Wednesday, Feb 24, Britain's Prime Minister, Gordon Brown, will be making a National Apology to all Home Children at Westminster Palace in London, England. David Lorente who spearheaded Home Children Canada in 1991 will be in Westminster Palace when it happens on the 24th and will have two home children and a family member for each with him. Pat Skidmore's mother, Marjorie Arnison, came to the Fairbridge Farm School in BC in 1937. Roddy Mackay came to the Fairbridge Farm School in BC in 1941, age 7. Both will be going to England with family members for the Apology. In Pat Skidmore's words - "I cannot begin to explain what it will be like for me to sit beside my mother now 83 1/2 years old in Westminster Palace while she listens to the Prime Minister of Britain deliver an apology." Joan O'Malley and her husband will also be there. Joan sewed Canada's first Maple Leaf flag in 1964 which was raised on this Flag Day in 1965. No one knew about this until ca 1995 when Dave wrote Prime Minister Chretien and told him a friend who was a Home Boy had set it all up, provided the bunting and even delivered the flag to PM Pearson 2010 Year of the British Home Child, Canada October 2010 Canada Post is issuing a Stamp commemorating the Home Children.
