********************************************* ******************************************************** UPDATE NEWSLETTER Number Twenty Nine - 1 July 2010 - HAPPY CANADA DAY...!!! ************************************************************************ * OBJECTIVES. ********* * 1. The objective of this *Update Newsletter* is to itemize and publish monthly additions and changes to The Canadian Gravemarker Gallery website. * 2. The Main Objective of the *Canadian Gravemarker Gallery* is to collect and process photographed grave markers of entire cemeteries from across Canada and place the photos online as a valuable free-access resource for Genealogists; and Descendants of those buried in the cemeteries. * * NEWS BULLETIN. ************ * It is noteworthy to mention that the huge St. Andrews'-St. James' Cemetery in Orillia is almost completely photographed and online thanks mainly to the interest and camera work of Olive Taylor. Block P will be online in the next few days, which only leaves Block L. How big is this cemetery...? Well...it has 26 good sized Blocks with Block K having 26 of its own Sections. Add the Huronia Regional Center and 8 columbarium walls and the grand total of photographs likely totals out around 25 - 30,000 grave marker photos...! Cemetery crawlers may be 'plumb tuckered out' before they finish crawling this whole cemetery. * * NEED A CHALLENGE..? **************** * 1. If you "have camera and will travel" to your local Canadian cemeteries, then we, at the Canadian Gravemarker Gallery would welcome your assistance, publish your name giving you full credit for your work and Family Researchers from around the world will be eternally grateful to you. * 2. If you feel you would like to help out with this huge, ongoing free project, please read the document located at: http://www.gravemarkers.ca/assist.htm for more details. * * NEW ENTIRE CEMETERIES ADDED/UPDATED ON THE CANADIAN GRAVEMARKER GALLERY. ********************************************************************** * 1. At the Canadian Gravemarker Gallery, which is online at: http://gravemarkers.ca ..we can accommodate unlimited numbers of photographs of complete cemeteries from anywhere in Canada. The photographers and/or organizations are given credit on the website for their interest and hard work. * 2. This long established, free-access National Site is proud to announce that there are more than 600 cemeteries completely photographed and onboard, amounting to over 350,000 searchable photographs. There have been over 580,000 visitors to the site. Each day there are over 200 folks browsing the site and there are over 10,000 name searches each month. * 3. This site is not "Sponsored" and therefore does not "dance to some company's tune" and will remain that way. However, there are some moderate expenses involved and donations of funds or gas cards by visitors certainly do help with gasoline to reach unphotographed cemeteries. * 4. If you have family or friends anywhere in Canada, who may be interested in photographing their local cemeteries, please inform them of the availability of The Canadian Gravemarker Gallery. Their photographed cemeteries will have world wide exposure on this National Cemetery website. * 5. If you and/or your organization is interested in your local cemeteries going online, please contact Murray P l e t s c h at: [email protected] or [email protected] - there are no cemeteries too big or too small...! * 6. A comprehensive "Tips and Hints" brochure can be sent to all interested folks....to help them get started photographing entire cemeteries. * * SUBSCRIBING TO THE WEBSITE UPDATES NEWSLETTER: ******************************************** * Don't miss future monthly updates. Subscribe to the automatic Gravemarker Galleries Newsletter. Please go to the Website at: http://www.gravemarkers.ca and click on the "Join Updates Newsletter" button located just above the weather row. * * HELPFUL HINTS: ************* * 1. Cemeteries online have spousal duplicated photographs. This means a photo of a stone which also has the spouse's maiden name showing, is duplicated and when one searches using the onboard search engine, for a surname, the spouse's surname will be reported as a separate "search result". * 2. If your "search engine" keyword is the same as a city, town, village, township then please read the valuable tip below: * A. *CONCERN:* If your "search engine" keyword you are using is say: pembrok* then your search will pick up all the pembroke surnames....*BUT* ...it will also pick up all the website pages where pembroke is used as a heading or meta name. * B. *SOLUTION:* Change your keyword to: pembrok1 and the search engine will only pick up the gravemarkers with the pembroke surname. * 3. If you don't see a Community and its' cemeteries online...it means a volunteer has not photographed and sent me the cemetery photographs. Can you or some of your family or friends help out by photographing the missing cemeteries....? * * FEEDBACK ******* * We are always interested in feedback from Visitors. If you have any questions or suggestions to improve the Canadian Gravemarker Gallery please do not hesitate to send your concerns or suggestions to: [email protected] * * ********************************************* Warmest regards...........Murray P l e t s c h * Cdn Gravemarker Gallery - http://gravemarkers.ca * Ont Historic Gallery - http://rootsweb.com/~cannor *
