    3. thanks Ellen, I have done that...can do that for only 3 years per 24 hours...so it could take me a long time to reach William's year of death. With TPL I have confirmed 8 years beyond the 1940 Registration info. but, TPL told me that Castlefield ave was not in Toronto in 1938...so I am mystified re its appearance in the 1921 Directory of Toronto, but not in 1938?. liz On Jan 18, 2012, at 1:25 PM, Ellen Murray wrote: > Liz if you type Toronto Public Library into google then click "ask a > librarian" you should get all your answers. 3. I found the 1921 City of Toronto Directory online, but are there any others online? my problem is that CASTLEFIELD Avenue [near Yonge--the 2400 block] , was in the 1921 Directory for at least house numbers 1 thru 150...but it may be that they were not in 1938 Directory? does anyone have access to ANY City of Toronto Directory of any of those years....1922 thru to 1940? I need to verify if Castlefield ave was considered part of Toronto in those years. thanks Liz of BC

    3. thanks Susan, I spent hours trolling thru TheStar, pagesofthepast...for William Richardson's death..looked from 1946 thru to 1977 when he would have been 90..did not find him unfortunately. Thanks for alerting me to the site...good, but rather tedius search. So either the family used another newspaper for his obit, or he moved? I am currently following him thru City of Toronto Directories...at TRL..and he was alive in 1948..may find him for years yet there. I might have gotten some clues about his daughters: Dorothy and Betty Richardson born between 1911 and 1919. thanks, liz of BC On Jan 17, 2012, at 3:07 PM, Susan Fowler wrote: > Hello, > > Have you tried looking through the pages of the past with the Toronto > Star?

    3. Janice; thanks so much for the photos...it seems they came off Google maps and streetview? I guess that "Higher Ground" business, formerly 2488 Yonge st, has moved to new premises since this photo...now at 2541 in a new building? from their website. now knowing the name of the apartment building, "Greencastle Block" I may be able to focus my search better. and these photos will be great to give my friend for where her birth father lived in 1940. And I do believe this area was a part of Toronto quite early on...at least before 1940. I need to find out when William Richardson moved there, and where else he might have lived in Toronto. If anyone has memories of this particular building, I would love to hear them. regards Liz of BC

    3. thanks Ellen, I have surfing around on maps for today's Toronto. I found a Toronto City Directory for 1921 online..and it showed that the area west of Yonge, for Castlefield ave was in the directory for numbers 2 thru 150...so I am wondering why that area would then be taken OUT of Toronto, only to be put back IN..?...I am not looking for the Castlefield area far west nearer to Bathurst etc. The 1921 Directory says Castlefield goes West from 2486 Yonge...and I am trying to find the apartment building at #7...likely on the corner of Yonge. I have asked TPL Reference to look again for me..thanks Liz On Jan 17, 2012, at 12:17 PM, Ellen Murray wrote: > Liz, been many years for me since living in Toronto so cannot remember > District but if you type 7 Castlefield Avenue + Toronto into google it > will > show you map. 3. I guess the National Registration is useful, as i found it, if you really dont know where someone went, or where they lived in 1940 and available censuses were for a much earlier time. So for us, the revelation that WILLIAM RICHARDSON actually lived in Toronto was very important and I hope has opened more doors to finding family for today. I think i just go lucky. liz of BC On Jan 16, 2012, at 4:04 PM, Joyce Stevens wrote: > > Got my grandfather's years ago and it was actually a disappointment. > No new > info.
