At the *Canadian Gravemarker Gallery*, we can accommodate unlimited numbers of photographs of complete cemeteries from anywhere in Canada. The largest cemetery on our site has over 50,000 photographs and our smallest has 3 photos. The photographers and/or organizations are given credit on the website for their interest and hard work. * 2. The Canadian Gravemarker Gallery is the oldest and largest website displaying "ONLY COMPLETELY PHOTOGRAPHED cemeteries" in Canada. This non-sponsored, free-access National Site is proud to announce that there are over 1,100 cemeteries onboard, amounting to over 550,000 searchable photographs. There have been almost 690,000 visitors to the site and each day there are over 200 folks browsing the site; and there are over 20,000 name searches each month. * 3. If you have family or friends ANYWHERE in Canada, who may be interested in photographing their local cemeteries, please inform them of the availability of The *Canadian Gravemarker Gallery*. Their COMPLETELY PHOTOGRAPHED cemeteries will have world wide exposure on this free-access National Cemetery Photograph website. * 4. If you and/or your organization are interested in your local cemeteries going online, please contact us at: info@gravemarkers.ca - there are no cemeteries too big or too small. They will be placed online at absolutely no cost to you...! * 5. A comprehensive "Tips and Hints" aide memoire in English or French is available. To help volunteers get started photographing entire Canadian cemeteries a copy of the aide memoire will be sent via email to all interested folks. * * SUBSCRIBING TO THE WEBSITE UPDATES HTML NEWSLETTER. ************************************************* * Don't miss future monthly updates. Subscribe to the automatic Canadian Gravemarker Gallery's HTML Newsletter which has "hot links" to the new cemeteries. Please go to the Website at: http://www.gravemarkers.ca and click on the "JOIN UPDATES NEWSLETTER" button located just above the weather row. * * HELPFUL HINTS - SUMMARY. ********************** * 1. Tracing female ancestors. Cemeteries online have spousal duplicated photographs. This means a photo of a stone which also has the spouse's maiden name showing, is duplicated and when one searches using the onboard search engine, for a surname, the spouse's surname will be reported as a separate "search result". * 2. Cemetery records. Over the past 11 years this website has been instrumental in breaking down many researchers' brick walls. In addition, many folks have travelled to cemeteries which are onboard, to "walk" the cemeteries. Please note that on some cemeteries we have included the "record holders" contact information for the township, town or village cemetery. * 3. Missing cemeteries. If you don't see a Community and its' cemeteries online...it means we have not photographed the cemeteries in that area. Would you or some of your family or friends be interested in helping out by photographing your local cemeteries.? * * FEEDBACK ******* * We are always interested in feedback from Visitors to the website. If you have any questions or suggestions to improve the *Canadian Gravemarker Gallery* please do not hesitate to send your comments, concerns or suggestions to us at: info@gravemarkers.ca * * ********************************************* * Best Regards....Murray P l e t s c h * Cdn Gravemarker Gallery - http://gravemarkers.ca * *********************************************

    3. Hi: The only Wright Deavitt/Devit in Durham County that I can find didn't die in 1852 as he and his family are listed on the 1861 census as well. Perhaps you typed 1852 as his death year in error as on the 1871 census, his wife, Mary Ann, was a widow and their last-listed child was born in 1866. There was another Wright Devitt family in York County, born abt 1796 in Ireland and his wife was named Elizabeth. They had a son named Wright Devitt born about 1846, also in Ireland. Perhaps the Elizabeth McLennan name that you found was for this elder Wright Devitt located in York County. Assuming that you want the one in Durham County: 1851 census of Cartwright, Durham County, Ontario: Right (sic) Devit, Farmer, born Ire, English church, age 30, log house of 1 story with 1 family living in it Mary Ann Devit, born Ireland, same church, age 20 Jane Devit, born Canada, age 1 John McCollum, labourer, born Ireland, same church, single, age 21 John Devit, farmer, born Ireland, same church, single, age 27 Jane Devit, born Ireland, same church, age 40, log house of 1 story with 1 family living in it 1861 census of Cavan, Durham: Wright Devitt Farmer born IRE Wesleyan Methodist age 39, log house of 1 story with 1 family living in it Mary A. 3. Please see the Ontario Cemetery Finding Aid (OCFA) - http://ocfa.islandnet.com/ocfa-search.php and in the "Search" enter only the surname Coughtrey and then Middlesex for the County. You will see 12 entries including Lloyd, Charles and Beatrice(sic) among others listed there. Also see: http://cemetery.canadagenweb.org/ON/ONM12701/P/ where you will see listings for two persons with surname of Coughtrey, namely Lloyd and Kathleen. Currently there are two persons with the surname of Coughtrey listed for London, Ontario at www.canada411.com - which only means those are two residences listed. Cheers! Hi: The Ontario Gene Society has some cemeteries indexed here: http://ogs.andornot.com/CemeteryIndex.aspx Search only the surname Coughtrey and your Lloyd & his wife Kathleen come up with death years, Lloyd in 1975 and Kathleen in 1980, buried in Mt. Pleasant, London, Ontario. The cemetery may or may not have further info: http://www.mountpleasantcemeterylondon.ca/ Scroll down this page and click on their names to view a photo of their headstone: http://cemetery.canadagenweb.org/ON/ONM12701/P/ If the cemetery will give you his date of death or his date of burial, the London Public Library may be able to look for an obituary for Lloyd: http://www.londonpubliclibrary.ca/ Kathleen must have been Lloyd's second wife? Perhaps Jessie remarried, too, or went back to Scotland? Ontario birth registrations online only go up to and include 1913 so if he was born after that, his birth won't be online and as I can't find it there, I assume he was born after that. His marriage to Jessie should give his age. 3. William ABBOTT, Corporal in His Majesty's 6th Regiment of Foot 30 years of age, died Nov 9th 1799 and was buried Nov 10th 1799 by the Deputy Chaplain to the Garrison of Quebec and his one month old daughter was also batized that same day. My question is would there be any reason for William to be in Vermont in the U.S. married and possibly having a child (possibly of Indian descent) born in Vermont yet headed back to Quebec shortly after the baby was born. 3. The Michigan Central Railroad (MCRR) had a nitro-gylycerine explosion in 1906 at Essex resulting in loss of life and property. My grandmother's nephew, age 26, was killed along with another brakeman - a really horrid accident and as my mother explained "he was blown to bits". Unfortunately the Evening Record spelled the nephew's name wrong. Those who may be interested in railroad history of the surrounding area might be interested in reading this: http://ink.ourontario.ca/wer/reel43/00045-x0-y0-z1-r0-0-0?query=essex explosion&p=1 The Evening Record, August 12, 1907 Cheers! 3. I rode it into Detroit from maybe Welland, and it was 1946. It was where I learned to hate customs/Immigration. I was about nine. By myself, American customs asked me many questions. They terrified me. I despise them to this day and I stil am frightened of the bullies. Could this be why I haven't flown except to return from LA. I am frightened of their touchy-feely stuff. -----Original Message----- From: ontario-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:ontario-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Carol Lylyk Sent: Thursday, January 26, 2012 2:46 PM To: ontario@rootsweb.com; doncarol@bell.net Subject: Re: [ONTARIO] MCRR from Detroit, MI Hello Don, If you Google Michigan Central Rail Road you will find a that it ran into Ontario as well.
