    3. thanks so very much Marg, this is indeed her! I am thrilled to have this info...everything confirmed. Including her real name as "ELIZABETH RICHARDSON"...[not "betty"] some mysteries tho..the birth in Scotland...her mother Georgina Dunlop Richardson [herself born at Glasgow] travelled to Scotland when her female baby was about 6 months old, I thought....I found that on Ancestry...at least she brought home to Canada a baby ..wonder if she was actually born there? Her parents were married in Victoria in July 1913. Guess I can go on Scotlandspeople to confirm her birth. wonderful news, liz of BC > > Border Crossings: From Canada to U.S., 1895-1956 > > Name: Elizabeth Simpler, married, occupation Wife, can read and write, > speaks English, Race: Scottish, Nationality: Canadian, Last > permanent residence: Toronto > [Elizabeth Richardson] > Arrival Date: 13 Sep 1939 > Port of Arrival: Niagara Falls, New York, United States > Accompanied by: Husband Charles, US citizen > Arrival Contact: Husband Charles > Departure Contact: Father William Richardson > Age: 25 > Birth Date: 19 Feb 1914 > Birth Place: Motherwell > Birth Country: Scotland (yes, it says she was born in Sct) > Gender: Female > Name & Address of nearest relative in country whence came: Father: > William Richardson, 7 Castlefield Ave, Toronto > Destination: Husband Charles Simpler, 12 East Depew Avenue, Buffalo, > NY > Place of landing when came from Scotland: Halifax, 1914 > Ever in US before: Yes, various places, several times, including 2 > years in Philadelphia, July 1929. >

    3. Sandra Mount Pleasant Cemetery is one of the Mt Pleasant Group of cemeteries. The staff have been very helpful to me in the past. I usually phone 416-696-7866 but you could try emailing Sue Henderson shende@mtpleasantgroup.com and give her Horace's date of death and/or date of interment (14 Dec 1959) and she can tell you if anyone else is buried with him. Sometimes the name just doesn't get put on the stone. Good luck. 1. [ONTARIO] "Coats of Arms"
    2. J. Brian Gilchrist
    3. Until the establishment of the Canadian Heraldic Authority in 1988 any legally registered heraldic devices (aka "Coats of Arms") were granted umder the of either the authority of the College of Arms, London or The Court of The Lord Lyon in Edinburgh. For many years it was fashionable to include a coat of arms / crest / shield / banner in the family history - even though to be valid you must prove a line of descent from the person to whom the Original Grant was given. Technically the Grant of Arms belongs only to the person it was granted to ... every time that others members of the family came to use it, it was "differenced" in some way - according to the rules of "cadency". Having said all this, one of the Heralds at The Heralic Authroity of Canada should be able to help you trace the origins of the illustration that you have. This may or may not be a free service - I do not know. Cheers! J. 1. [ONTARIO] Methodists in Zorra Twp, Oxford Co, Ontario, Canada
    2. John Clement
    3. Surnames: DAY, FORD, LAND, ALYEA, BURDICK Reference 1: "The Oxford Gazetteer" by Thomas S. Shenston [Hamilton 1852] On page 165 there is an assesment roll for Zorra Twp dated 1822. Among others listed in the roll, are Ira C. DAY, Barnabus FORD, Wm. LAND, Peter ALYEA and Isaac BURDICK. Reference 2: "Pioneer Life in Zorra" by W.A. MacKay [Toronto : William Briggs, 1899]. On page 370 the author mentions "Methodists" who arrived with their families at Zorra Twp in the early 1820s. The same individuals listed above are shown here as "bringing their religion with them." I assume the author of reference 2 got his information from Methodist church records in Zorra Twp. Does anyone have access to any such Methodist records? My interest lies only in Ira C. DAY and family. He was born about 1799 in New York. He apparently brought his family to Zorra in the 1820s. He had two sons born in "West Canada," being Isaac DAY born about 1828 and Orin H. DAY, born about 1832. Perhaps there were other children including an older Samuel DAY born about 1824. By 1836, Ira C DAY and his sons had moved to Michigan, USA. In 1836, Ira C. DAY purchased land in Calhoun County, Michigan, USA. In the land records, he is identified as "Ira C. DAY of Oxford County, Upper Canada" (source US Bureau of Land Management www.glorecords.blm.gov/ ) The family of Ira and sons then would be: Ira C. DAY, born c1799 New York Samuel DAY (perhaps) b c1824 Isaac DAY, born c1828 Canada West Orin H. DAY, born c1832 Canada West I am seeking confirmation that Samuel, Isaac, and Orin are sons of Ira C. DAY, perhaps in Methodist church records. On the other hand, it is possible that Samuel, Isaac, and Orin are not sons of Ira, but rather related in some other way. Any information on these four would be helpful. --- John Clement, 14221 E Evans Ave Apt 403, Aurora CO 80014 Email: JohnClem@who.net Voice: 303-873-2197 Permanent email: JohnClem@who.net
