Ed Janzen of Canadian Stories magazine is looking for more Home Children stories. His magazine published bimonthly now has a Home Child page. Since the Anthology is now published he needs more stories. In fact, he says if he got more than enough he'd be willing to publish another Home Child Anthology (which is separate and apart from the magazine). So for those of you who missed out and wished you had sent him a story, now is another chance for you. You don't get paid for you story. If you want a copy you have to buy the book. I subscribe to the magazine and thoroughly enjoy it. It brings back a lot of forgotten memories of days long ago. You write about anything that hits your fancy. All provinces are covered in the magazine. So send Ed your Home Child stories. http://www.canadianstories.net/contact.html Ed Janzen CANADIAN STORIES P.O. Do you believe that the Government of Canada should apologize for the Home Children/Child Migrant Immigration Scheme 1869 - 1960's for any misfortune or abuse/neglect thesa children experienced? If so, following this link you will find the Petition to print off with instructions. http://canadianbritishhomechildren.weebly.com/apology-petition.html Only residents of Canada may sign this petition and their is no age restriction although there should be a basic understanding of the Home Children and the reasons for this petition. Marg: Thanks for the reply. I don't have any info on this family of Christina's. I was searching the McMillan children and happened to find where one of the girls was married to N. R. Morrison in Cobalt. The 1911 had them in Ajax with no children. Kenneth was the first. I haven't been doing any research in Ontario so don't know what one can access, i.e. vital stats or obits. Really appreciate the help. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Marg McFarlane" <margmcfarlane1951@gmail.com> To: <ontario@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, March 05, 2012 4:52 PM Subject: Re: [ONTARIO] Searching MORRISON, Neil R. Folks, I've not been following this thread, but noticed on www.findmypast.com that they are also releasing the 1940 US census in about a month. They have a clock ticking down on their home page. I don't know if anyone has mentioned FMP having this census too, so sorry if it's a duplicate message. Cheers, Jon

Cemetery records. Over the past 13 years this website has been instrumental in breaking down many researchers' brick walls. In addition, many folks have travelled to cemeteries which are onboard, to "walk" the cemeteries. Please note that on some cemeteries we have included the "record holders" contact information for the township, town or city cemetery. * 3. Missing cemeteries. If you don't see a Community and its' cemeteries online...it means we have not photographed the cemeteries in that area. Would you or some of your family or friends be interested in helping out by photographing your local cemeteries.? * * FEEDBACK ******* * We are always interested in feedback from Visitors to the website. I've noticed several people question how they can search the 1940 census when it becomes available on April 2. It will not be indexed probably for several months but if want to try and find someone there is a way. Over the last few days I finished putting together the following - suggestions on how to search....FREE...once it is available on April 2, 2012. You don't need to use Ancestry.com. These images will come from the National Archives. You will need at the very least a street name, better yet, a complete address, whether it be from the 1930 census, a directory, or an address closer to the 1940 date such as from World War 2 draft registrations of 1942. Or if you know the ED from the 1930 census you can go here to get the corresponding ED for the 1940 census. http://stevemorse.org/census/unified.html Once you have the address you want to search, go here: http://stevemorse.org/census/ (Steve Morse has produced many handy tools when it comes to census searching....thank you Steve and Joel Weintraub! You can also go through his tutorial at http://stevemorse.org/census/quiz.php) From the drop down lists choose the state and then the city. Then select the street. (Unfortunately I don't think all cities will be available here but currently those with a population of 25,000 or more will be. If your city isn't listed you can still find the ED by going here to see a map of the ED districts http://stevemorse.org/census/xml1940edmaps.html.) If more than one Enumeration District shows, go to the bottom where it says "View present day map" and put in the street number and click on your choice of Google maps, Yahoo or Mapquest. Note the nearest cross streets. Go back to the "street" drop down box and enter each cross street until you have only one Enumeration District showing. It will say in red "The ED you want is....". Right next to it will be "View microfilm". Click on that. This will take you to the National Archive's free access to the 1940 census and the full roll for that census area will be scrollable. Once the census is released on April 2, I will try it and post any changes to these instructions. In the meantime, you can already get prepared by making a list of the addresses that you want to search. Only 33 days to go! Karin Corbeil P.S. As someone else mentioned Kimberly Powell has also put up similar instructions here: http://genealogy.about.com/b/2012/02/28/how-to-find-granddad-in-the-1940-u-s-census.htm And another page with lots of info is Joel Weintraub's https://sites.google.com/site/census1940/ On 2/29/2012 3:00 AM, ontario-request@rootsweb.com wrote: > From: Ellen Murray<ellen.murray@sympatico.ca> > Subject: [ONTARIO] 1940 Census - Karin Corbeil > To:<ontario@rootsweb.com> > Message-ID:<BLU0-SMTP35C1E4CCE56C8822A27BEEF16F0@phx.gbl> > Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" > > Karin, am also interested in what you have to say about searching the 1940 Census > > Ellen
Karin, am also interested in what you have to say about searching the 1940 Census Ellen
You don't need an Ancestry.com subscription to see the 1940 census on April 2. You will be able to access it directly through the National Archives and through Familysearch.org And since it won't be indexed initially, there are ways to find who you are looking for without going through every single record. If anyone is interested on how to do this, please let me know and I can post here. You will, at the very least, need a street name or better yet a complete address.
