I was in Grace Anglican Church Hamilton Ontario today and saw what a lovely church it once was. Sadly it has now closed and everything inside is almost up for grabs it seems. Orphaned memorials include this bronze plaque from WW2 W. RONALD LANCE NORMAN E KIRK ROSS L CUZNER JOHN GILBERTSON JOHN D PIKEN JOSEPH P SPEAKMAN JOHN A CORBETT ROBERT J. ORR WALTER H COOK CHARLES WILLOUGHBY and a second one for GEORGE HENRY CHAFFEY P.O. RCAF JOSEPH PAGE SPEAKMAN OBSERVER RCAF These plaques lack a new home I'm told. If there are any family members out there who can find a suitable public place for them I'm sure the people at the church would like them to be displayed. There are a number of large very ornate stained glass windows as well in need of a home,. inclding a massive one to the above heroes. Even the original record book of the founding of the church lies in a heap of plaster dust - possibly soon to be forgotten as well. Unless somebody wants a big church it will be torn down. :-((( Nelson

Most Methodists in Canada joined with many of the Presbyterians and a number of smaller groups to form the United Church of Canada.. Some Methodists remain independent. A lot of the smaller denominations were one of a kind churches much like the storefront churches we see today run by self ordained "Born Again" Christians. Some flourished, some died off or merged with others. I'd suggest the United Church of Canada Archives. http://www.united-church.ca/archives/ Sadly church records were often kept in the church itself and often burned along with the churches. And even more sadly much of the history of the old churches simply gets dumped in the dumpster. I was in a church that has closed today and It's sad to see what is going to be lost. Can anyone tell me where to locate Methodist Church registers for Lanark County, Ramsay Twp. 1840-1855. LDS seems to have only Catholic ones. I've sent out many queries to various organizations and no one seems to have any information. Might they only be available at Methodist Church Archives? If so, does anyone have a contact address? I am seeking any information about Ernest Ronald Rivers MACPHERSON, who was born 4 February 1884 in Kingston Jamaica. Ernest Ronald became a soldier in the British Army ( Gordon Highlanders and RAOC) and retired as a colonel, moving to Ottawa, Canada after World War 2. Ernest married my relative Vera Mary KINSEY in 1910 in St John's Church, Boscombe, Hants. She died in 1950. He died in 1959 and his obituary said he left a son in England ( Ian Kenneth) and a wife and daughter in Canada. I would be interested in any information about their descendants. Anne

Hi There are a couple of places to look and I have found them reliable. In 1925 the Presbyterian Church joined with the United Church which holds many of the old church Archives.
