Page 225, lines 24 & 25 of the 1851 Census, YORK County, Markham, shows Ellen Bready (sic) and daughter Susan are with son-in-law Robert Blakely and wife/daughter Elisha. The Census states Ellen will be 60 years old and Susan is 30 on next birthday, both born in Ireland, both RC. Can anyone tell if the writing shows them to be widowed, married or single? That's the last they're seen. They are not in the 1881 Census, no Ancestry record of a death of Ellen or a marriage of Susan... that I can find, so I don't know if they are visiting in the 1851 Census or even living in Ontario. Hi Doreen: One thing to keep in mind is that OCFA includes the names of ALL persons' names appearing on the headstones, not just the names of people who were actually buried in that plot in a particular cemetery, if that's the way the contributor/organization recorded the headstones. For example, my female relative's headstone gives the name of her husband, Mary Jones wife of George Jones, so his name is also included in the OCFA index, even though he wasn't buried in that cemetery in with her. He remarried, moved to the US, died and was buried there with his second wife. He had never purchased a plot in that cemetery for himself either. Hers was the only one purchased by him. You would have to check with the cemetery or view the actual headstone transcript to determine if there really was a burial for this Patrick in that cemetery or not, or if it was just on her headstone as Mary Jones, wife of George, and that's how his name ended up in the transcription. As an example, on the OCFA website is "frequently asked questions": Why are these listings of people who are still alive? Most of the information in OCFA comes from the Indexes of Cemetery Transcriptions. Many people have a tombstone carved with both the husband's and wife's name after one of them has passed on. If the Cemetery Transcript contains both these names, OCFA will contain them as well. While the above entry is referring to persons still alive, the same info applies to persons not actually buried in a cemetery but who are named on the headstone. They all are in the OCFA database if the person/group who transcribed the headstones included those references to spouse or children that appear on the stones.
