Hi: Does anyone know of a Milligan buried in Sunderland, Ontario? Name and info. would be much appreciated. Cheers Pamela Daly
Frederick Wainford Henderson (AKA Ted) is/was my maternal uncle. He was born in Long Reach New Brunswick March 15 1905 to Samuel Hollie Henderson and Bertha Welling Gorham. The last time I saw him was about 1932/3 in Abbotsford Quebec. He was leaving for Ontario and I had heard he went to work on the railroad. I have heard of such places as Hearst, Fox Eldorado and Nakina in different obituary notices for his parents and siblings. I never ever heard if he served in the military in World War II as did his two other brothers, Vaughn and Kilburn Henderson. I have found the burial places of his parents and all his siblings and he is the only one that I can't locate. Any help would be greatly appreciated so I can complete this file. TIA Marie F. OK folks, I think the writing stands for Columbia Picture Corporation and Joan Perry was the wife of Harry Cohn the owner. One mystery solved. How my realtive knew her is still to be determined. Hello list, A member of the LDS church contributed the following to the IGI: Thomas LUXTON was married on 01-Jan-1857 to Sarah THORNTHWAITE She was b 28 May 1839 in Pugwater, Nova Scotia & d 22 Jul 1917 If this is correct, then Thomas & Sarah were probably married in Elgin Co., Ontario. I'm trying to find proof that Sarah was, in fact, a Thornthwaite - does anyone have any suggestions? Marriage registrations ususally give the bride's maiden name, but Sarah's 1857 marriage was before Ontario kept marriage registrations. Birth registrations sometimes give the maiden name of the mother: Thomas & Sarah had 3 children born in Ontario 1858, 1860 and 1863; however, I cannot find birth registrations because they were born before Ontario births were registered. Hello Pat: Your email indicates that these persons only travelled between England and Canada. If they did travel to the USA they would not have been required to produce any special documents. Up to about 10 years ago Canadians only had to produce their birth certificate or drivers' license as proof of citizenship and identity. Excerpt from: http://www.rootsweb.com/~canon/research-topic-citizenship.html "British Subjects were those born in England, Wales, Scotland, Ireland, parts of Canada (like Ontario), Australia, India and the British West Indies. If your ancestor was born in any of these areas prior to the 20th century (1900), you will NOT find a citizenship or naturalization record if they immigrated to another British colony. " Single women with a child could support themselves by doing domestic work, restaurants, office or factory work. Day Care centres as we know them didn't exist, but there was often another person who was glad of some extra money and would take in a child during the day. Re the burial with deceased first husband. Most of the simpler burial plots (not the huge family ones) are for two or three persons. Once you've paid for that and with only one person interred, you might as well take advantage of that space. Today, because of cremation, some of those small plots will accommodate one or two urns as well. Cheers! Cheers! What, if any, documentation did you need to travel in the 1920's? >From an inscription in a book I have information that my father and Grandmother traveled to England in 1920, from this information I found the name of the ship the Megantic sailing 30/10 1920 ,but they are not listed on the passenger list. There is however a mother and child with the same first names and information that they had been living in Canada before and that the child was born in Canada. Grannie originally came to Canada (Winnipeg) in 1912 and my father was born in Winnipeg. This is the same information as the ships manifest for the other surname, which is Reed. This is what I know as fact: Edith (Hassall) Pearce and husband George arrived in Canada on the Royal Edward which sailed from Bristol 18/9/1912....destination Winnipeg. I have not found a marriage entry. Ernest Stanway Pearce was born in Winnipeg in 1913. We always celebrated in April, but the actual birthdate is January. He did not use the surname Pearce. George Pearce disappeared from site and was never ever mentioned again. In 1924 Edith married a John Robinson.... and is shown as Edith Hassall a spinster on the certificate.... John died in 1933, Edith remarried again, but when she died in 1963 she is buried with John Robinson. I have always wondered how a single mother of a young child could have supported herself, for a period of possibly 10 years.... could she have married once again and is she the same women as is shown on the ships manifest in 1920. all suggestions and help sincerely appreciated ....Pat H. .. -- I am using the free version of SPAMfighter for private users. Hi Dorothy. I am looking for Dorothy Francis and her children, Lauren, John and Rick. I do not know the husbands name. I would imagine that this family originated in England - possbily around London area. But, there is the possibility that they came from the US, maybe in th eNY orPA areas. I have just found these names so have not had time to do much research on them. I will print out your email and we may be able to connect at a later date. As of now the names you mentioned are not familiar to me. Do you have any association with Rynolds / Pritchard / Flintoff or Grant surnames ? Where did your family settle in Canada ? Can you give me an approx year of birth for George? There are several that crossed the border from Canada to Vermont after 1913. I will try to locate him using border crossing records to see if he disappeared to the U.S. Do you have a year of birth for Edith? archworth <archwort@bconnex.net> wrote: What, if any, documentation did you need to travel in the 1920's? >From an inscription in a book I have information that my father and Grandmother traveled to England in 1920, from this information I found the name of the ship the Megantic sailing 30/10 1920 ,but they are not listed on the passenger list.
