Hi Peggy, There was a great program on TV where a retired Toronto Police officer re-enacted what happened, he even went as far as stating who he thought murdered the Donnellys. Very much a reflection from another tombstone or some thing in white like another person nearby. You can tell because the sun is coming in from the front left of the camera. Granite reflects light very well and is often very hard to photograph. I get this sort of reflection all the time in my pictures. Most often when I try to take a photograph of a picture on a wall with a glass cover, I often get more of the room behind me than the picture in front even though my eyes tell me the picture is very clear. Almost all "special effects" in the movies - pre-computers used this sort of reflection to fool people into thinking "ghosts" were onscreen. But you could probably get a few bucks from the National Enquirer for it :-)) Heck there are numerous reality TV shows based on this sort of optical illusion. People running around with infra-red cameras jumping every time something goes thump! "OMG!! It's a GHOST!!!" nope it's Camera Techniques 101 and a clumsy sound man. Nelson
It's the Paterson/McLean stone, on one of the sides there is a mention of an infant being buried there. I believe anyone who is from Ontario knows the history of the Black Donnellys. Wayne's image brought to mind that images have been seen on the tombstone of the Donnelly's in Lucan. I was researching a woman from Hamilton last name Donnelly but no relation when I came across the 4 death registrations all one after the other in the Ontario registrations. Talk about being careful not to rile one side or another every cause of death is listed as "presumed murdered". I believe one had been axed in the back. Rather clumsy accident if he did it to himself. James who was shot at his brother's house must have had a clumsy accident also. Just alittle Ontario history. You hear and read all the stories that are like folklore but it is an eye-opener when they actually appear in the official records. I copied them and put them in my files under HISTORY. I still see a lady with a hat. Very period but I don't know the dates on the stone. Would be interesting to find a picture of her and see if it's anything like the image on the stone. The other view is a child standing upright with it looks like her hands together in front of her like she's standing in front of the teacher. Very formal pose. I tried to crop the picture and send it with labels as to features I see but it becomes so small it is hard to see and if you bring it up enough the spots in the marble get to be like pixels and blurry. I think even more interesting is the misty area in the lower left of the picture. -----Original Message----- From: ontario-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:ontario-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of wcook Sent: Sunday, September 09, 2007 9:00 PM To: CAN-ONT-SIMCOE@rootsweb.com Cc: ONTARIO-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [ONTARIO] Ghost picture? Hi Jackie. Thanks for answer. I should have mentioned this family in my message. This family are already sorted out ,but it could have been her. I found Hilda and Peter`s emigration from Norway. they were from more northern Norway ,and Gunvor was born there before they left. Don`t know how long my Hilda and Marius was in Ontario....had been better to look for the family if I had known when they came to US.
