    3. Hello Robin Many thanks for your suggestions, I seem to remember that she was in London and I have had a look at the 1911 census but can't pick her out. Yes Boyle was her maiden name and I have no idea what her married name was. I think my best bet would be to join Ancestry Canada and see if I can find her on the marriage Index. 2. Marg McFarlane
    3. Hi Sheila: I did look at the Ontario marriages for her but found quite a few Mary Boyle's and without her parents' names, it's impossible to tell you if anyone of them is correct. There is no Canada-wide marriage, or birth or death index. Each of the Provinces and territories collects their own vital event registrations and each has rules abt what age the records are that are available to the public. Only 5 of the provinces have searchable records online and only up to certain years. If she married beyound 1924, in 1925, in Ontario, you'd have to look at the 1925 Ontario marriage reg index at your local LDS family history centre to see if there were any Mary Boyle's married in that year, and then either order the marriage registration film in and look at that, or order a copy of any Mary Boyle marriages that you found in the Index. It's a two-step process - fist you find the person on the Index film and get the registration number from that, and secondly you either order in the correct marriage registration film, or you order the registration(s) directly from the LDS. The kind volunteers there will hellp you out. If she married after 1925 in Ontario, you need to know when and then you can order the reg directly from the Office of the Registrar General. Follow the pathway here: http://www.archives.gov.on.ca/english/interloan/v-myear.htm A free site that is working on putting online all Ontario marriage reg's, but it's NOT complete yet: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~maryc/thisisit.htm Do you know the names of her parents? That would help narrow the search in the Ontario records online at Ancestry. Do you know if she was Roman Catholic or Protestant? Do you know her married name when she took the post-WWII trip? Or the name and age of her daughter? The British Columbia site is not searchable by anything other than a name or place or date. You need to know who she married, or when she married. You can't search the sites using a name plus a birthdate or by parents' names, etc. British Columbia marriages online are up to and including 1931: http://www.bcarchives.gov.bc.ca/textual/governmt/vstats/v_events.htm#indexes Saskatchewan does not have marriages online yet, only births over 100 years, and some of the deaths. Marriages will be done at a later date: http://vsgs.health.gov.sk.ca/vsgs_srch.aspx Manitoba, not searchable by age or parents' names, etc: http://web2.gov.mb.ca/cca/vital/Query.php Nova Scotia search site: https://www.novascotiagenealogy.com/ http://archives.gnb.ca/APPS/GovRecs/VISSE/?L=EN The other Canadian provinces do not have vital records searchable online. Regarding the daughter, do you know where and when she was born? That might be on her death registration if you can get that. Did they go back to Canada after the post-WWII visit? Re her emigration, there are a number of Mary Boyle's when you search here, only 1925 - 1935 online and searchable by name: http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/archivianet/immigration-1925/001012-100.01-e.php These are of the right age but perhaps you think she was already married by then: 13. Boyle Mary 40 Br 1925 15. Boyle Mary 39 Br 1925 Click on the surname to see ship's name, date of arrival, etc. If you want to order copies of the above persons passenget lists see: http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/archivianet/immigration-1925/001012-130-e.html?PHPSESSID=37pgbus481t2dhppb4da8c1066 This National Archives database is NOT searchable by name, only by the name of the ship, arrival date, etc: Passenger Lists, 1865-1922 Info on other online passenger databases may be found lower down this page: http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/genealogy/022-908.003-e.html If she came from England to New York rather than directly to a Canadian port: www.ellisisland.org This group is working on indexing all ship's passenger arrivals to Canada: http://members.shaw.ca/nanaimo.fhs/ This is an on-going project so you may wish to check back periodically to see who has been added to the database. Canada is huge and without more info, finding her may be like looking for a needle in a haystack. Did she go back to Canada after her post-war trip? Canada has strict privacy rules so no vital events are open to the public beyond certain years set by each province. You may be able to get a death reg for her after the date open to the public, but you would have to know when and where she died first. 3. I have joined this list because I'm seeking advice on how next to proceed in the search for Mary Baldwin BOYLE also know as Polly Boyle Mary was born in Kensington London in 1884 and she was still in London for the 1901 census. The next we here of her is the family story that she returned to London from Canada with her daughter in 1945/7 to visit her sister my grandmother. I have searched the shipping records (England to Canada) but there are too many Mary Boyle''s I do not know if she married before she went to Canada or after. I can't find her on the UK BDM Index Would they have been allowed to travel so soon after the war? Where can I search the Canadian marriage index? Would I be able to search the Canadian death index using just her Christian names of Mary Baldwin? Is there a Canadian census I could search? Sorry to ask so many questions but I'm stuck and need help. Any suggestions greatly appreciated. Regards Sheila NSW Australia

Certain Manitoba, Saskatchewan British Columbia & New Brunswick b/m/d indices are searchable online for free - generally only for births more than approximately 100 years ago and marriages and deaths from 20(B.C.) to 80 years ago - just do a google search you should be able to find them easily. 2. It's funny, but for about a week now, searches of Births have given poor results. A search for Johnson born any time results in NO hits. A search for anybody in county Bruce results in a large number of hits of births where the mother's maiden name was Bruce. I think Ancestry owes everybody a week's credit for these databases being useless. 3. Hi: I have noticed so difficulties as well and assume that it has something to do with the additional years of reg's that they are adding. As well, perhaps they are going to add additional fields to use when searching. I just tried searching Ontario birth reg's for Johnson only, no first name or date, got over 4000 hits. Then I searched all births of any surname in Bruce County and got over 51,000 hits. Perhaps they are up and running now. You could always contact them and ask for one. 1. [ONTARIO] Using new marriages on Ancestry: News from Gilchrist
    2. Brian Gilchrist
    3. For those of you good folk using the Ontario birth records online from Ancestry please note an important change you will see when you view the actual images. I fully expect many brick walls will be broken down! My comments are nothing new for those of us who have had the ability to use the microfilms for the last few months. Beginning in 1908 new questions were asked on birth registrations which have major genealogical implications. Are the parents married? Where were the parents married? When were the parents married? If she (the mother) has been married more than once, give names of former husband or husbands; Is she (the mother) single or a widow? If a widow, state name, occupation & date of husband's death. Mind you some of the answers given, if the response was indeed filled in at all, may surprise you. Indeed some answers seem to be fabricated due to situations. For example, on a 1908 birth registration, the marriage of the parents is recorded to have taken place in 1901 in x location. This was still many years after the couple had been having children (since the 1890's). There is no civil marriage registration recorded for any year for this couple, and I can not find it in the local church records (which are seemingly complete). There is no newspaper announcement in any of the local papers. (Current conclusion: Living together - even though all other records show them to be husband and wife: census, land registry documents, will, tombstone). 2. Marg McFarlane
    3. Hi List: For those of you with subscriptions to Ancestry's Canadian record collection, or access at your library, FHC, etc, they have added 2 more years of each type of records: Ontario, Canada Births, 1869-1909 - New/Updated Ontario, Canada Deaths, 1869-1934 - New/Updated Ontario, Canada Marriages, 1857-1924 - New/Updated Re the marriages, I have found today (Friday) that the search engine is not working properly, likely due to adding more years of records, as I can't search by criteria such as parents' names, or location, etc. I imagine that will be resolved over the next few days. Also, I noted that some of the death reg's index entries now include the names of the parents' for those years when that info was required on the reg forms. The death reg search screen does not appear to have been updated yet to include boxes for searching by the names of the parents. Anyway, give them time to get everything up to speed and then we can search like mad!! Also, for those of your with ancestors of the Roman Catholic faith, the Drouin collection of records is not just for Quebec, but is also on Ancestry for Ontario: http://content.ancestry.com/iexec/?htx=List&dbid=1109&offerid=0%3a7858%3a0 For a full list of Ontario databases, as well as other databases: http://www.ancestry.com/search/locality/dbpage.aspx?tp=3243&p=5007 Marg in Sunny Alberta
